Rye Country Day - drugs problems of old. That's all I know. |
Of old? |
Thread killer here I see. |
How close do you live to Greenwich Country Day? We've been there for 7 years and now all three kids are there - I don't have enough amazing things to say about the school. Academically challenging but not to an insane degree, great support from teachers, great sports and music program, just the most gorgeous campus. Happy to answer any questions! |
Rye Country Day is intense, very strong academically but has a very particular prep school culture that was a turn off for us. In short, academics are stellar but definitely a pressure cooker type school. Hackley also has great academic reputation but I found it not to be as insular culturally. Agree with the previous PP to check out Greenwich Country Day. It has all the wonderful academic/arts/sports offering but a more nurturing environment. Big downside is that up until a year or two ago they were a K-8 school so it definitely feels like most of the kids are from Greenwich even though I know they are trying to change it. |
Greenwich Country Day added high school recently. Now K-12.

Greenwich Country Day has a nice campus (although no where near as nice as Hackley) but is very Greenwich insular and the academics are well below RCDS and Hackley - not close to the same league. The brightest kids at GCDS often look to move to Brunswick and GA. GCDS is a good school (although some nasty bullying in some grades) but Hackley and RCDS are great schools - different league. |
Although academics at Rye are supposedly very strong, the teachers are strict, harsh, and lack warmth. The school is very protective of the teachers and does nothing when teachers are under performing or are all around not liked. The environment is punitive and unforgiving. It has gotten worse over the pandemic. A lot of families feel that the school does not care about their kids. There is a lot of unrest.
Also, the administration has almost completely turned over over the past year or two. Heads of all divisions plus the head of school are new. There are a lot of things in flux. I’d look elsewhere. |
Can you say more. We are looking at RCDS for Pre-K next year as well as Greenwich Academy. I thought of it as less preppy than GA. What you’ve said is concerning. |
The best part about GCDS is the food. Great school for kids who are not type-A and academically motivated. High powered academics with a rigorous courses can be found at the HS level at the local high school, GA, Brunswick, RCDS, St. Luke’s, GFA. |
