My kid broke his arm and can’t run, jump, climb or really play. Looking for suggestions on what he can do to tire him out. My list so far: walk. What am I missing? |

your doctor sucks, injured doesn't mean you can't move. |
DD had an elbow cast last year. The good news is that the cast wasn't on too long so she could resume being active in like 5 weeks-ish.
We had an exercise bike so she got on that a few times a week. Long walks for sure. We did a lot of stairs - the HS stadium near our house was a good work-out to walk up/down on. She took it slow, naturally, but it was better than nothing. |
Where does it say the doctor said not to move? |
OP how old is your kid? And it is the dominant arm? My son liked to kick the soccer ball around and play one-armed tennis when he was in a cast. He also liked to throw a soft frisbee back and forth, though he didn't really catch it much. |
NP, but where else would such a level of restrictions come from. And, I agree - why can't the kid do these things. I had major hand surgery and didn't have a single restriction remotely as onerous as what OP is saying her child can't do. |
If the child had a complex injury or compartment syndrome, there may need to be healing without movement of the affected limb. We don't know anything about the injury that OP's son had or why there are restrictions on play and movement. Don't override a doctor's instructions. Truly ignorant.
Alternatively, OP may simply be communicating that he "can't" jump, climb or really play because he's not capable of doing those things with a big cast on his arm that is unwieldy and he can't balance. Cast on a child limb is totally different than for an adult. OP, if it's a case of your child feeling unable to balance and manage a lot of activity, he may need some physical therapy. |

My son broke his arm in two places and still trained in soccer at the field by himself—-running, shooting, dribbling.
