Admittedly naive question- MD vs VA, life vs death sciences

Anonymous
Would the pandemic, especially under a new administration, change the dynamic of economic growth in the DMV?

The cliche was that Virginia had the "death sciences" (military, defense contractors), Maryland had the "life sciences" (NIH, Johns Hopkins, biotech companies), and some argued that VA is outpacing MD not because of its tax regime but because of American priorities.

To what extent is this true?

Would the pandemic upend this trend, especially with Novavax in MoCo

or

Would Virginia's more business-friendly reputation attract more biotech companies to come to Virginia instead?

No change with administration.

You final sentance is absolutely accurate. Virginia's more business-friendly reputation will attract more biotech companies to come to Virginia even moving from MD.
