The deck is ground level if it matters. I'd get the heat shield. The solo stove is almost smokeless, so it wouldn't bother neighbors. There's nothing in the HOA regs about it. Is it legal in MoCo? |
Nope. |
This is such a stupid idea. |

Don't be the reason the HOA has to implement another rule. This is not safe and you know it. |
The are lots of county laws: https://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/DEP/Resources/Files/downloads/compliance/Recreational-and-opening-burning.pdf Don’t be like the gender reveal party jerks and burn down your neighbors homes. |
A propane fire pit would be about as dangerous as a propane barbecue (that is I’d be comfortable doing it but your development may have rules) but an actual wood fire pit seems dumb? |
Fire pits are not allowed on decks, and must be at least 20 feet from any home.

I have a solo stove on our wood deck. Love it, no issues, and the reviews/advertising all comment on its suitability for such situations. Get the ring for it to stand on, and the spark shield. And don’t be dumb, starting fires if you live in California or doing it on a windy day. We also keep a fire hydrant handy on that level; our deck is on the roof. |
Well if you keep a fire hydrant handy then....
Maybe this is advice from a russian troll designed to burn down more of America? 😉 |
Don’t do it.

Nope. Not safe OP. Do this in the yard or the driveway. |
Not legal in moco. |
