Fine enough with that.

Crowded schools can already limit or stop new transfers, whether it’s for a language, AP, IB, or some other reason.

Then why do people keep saying WS is overcrowded? It seems to allow transfers.

I could be wrong, but I think some of the schools that stopped allowing transfers to AP, IB, or language instruction still permit a limited number of transfers for other reasons - kids of FCPS employees, kids who've moved before their senior year, kids who may be reassigned based on a disciplinary issue. Also, parents living on a military installation can pick any school in FCPS.

WSHS has been closed to transfers for over a decade.

For some reason, the small number of transfers (around 2 dozen, assumed to be German immersion, military or teachers kids) doubled to around 60 transfers in the past 2-3 years. This more than doubling of the historic trends of transfers into WSHS needs to be looked at. I suspect it comes from district level, and not the school leadership. The previous principal did not want to have transfers into WSHS, so it is doubtful the school approved a doubling of transfers into the closed school in a very short time period, unless the district Gatehouse level made it happen.

I have no knowledge of transfers or West Springfield, but I do know that there are occasionally disciplinary transfers--or at least there used to be.

Chantilly is also closed to transfers, yet had 18 additional students in one month --I think it was November. That strikes me as odd.

The incompetence that FairFACTS Matters has uncovered relating to the selection of BRAC members raises bigger issues as to whether those currently running FCPS and on the School Board could possibly be trusted with fair and valid county-wide boundary changes.

FCPS has never had a more incompetent Superintendent and School Board and they need to pause the boundary study, figure out how to improve their processes, and form a new advisory committee (one where obnoxious School Board shills aren't rewarded with seats for their long history of sucking up to the School Board) before doing any further work.

Fairfax matters discovered a typo on a spreadsheet, maybe. Theres a reason no legitimate new outlet is running that “story” except a local blog.

Seems like there would be a response. After all, there is video. And, there is also the issue of the three Woodson members and that one of them happens to be a very big School Board supporter. She also serves on the FLE committee and is a Democrat activist.
And, another BRAC member is quite vocal on social media, as well. Probably lots of other members.

Fairfacts matters has FCPS videos where the district employees completely removed names after they were selected randomly for the committe.

I watched the video and this isn’t what is shown.

So, what happened to #35?

Take your meds, dear.

When FCPS launches a county-wide boundary review that approaches many of the key considerations (such as whether we should have 6-8 middle schools, the future of AAP centers, and the potential elimination of IB) ass-backwards, it naturally invites a lot of attention and criticism.

I doubt this will stop them, despite this new “rumor” (which sounds like wishful thinking), but parents are the only ones left to challenge them. The SB is now a one-party echo chamber where even the members who disagree with some of the decisions will not speak out.

6-8 middle schools can’t happen as most middle schools are overcrowded. They would need to have an additional middle school per pyramid to make that work. AAP Centers should go away.

+1
Absolutely. The 6-8 idea is absurd - and AAP centers are also absurd.

It looked like someone who made it to the final round, but was known to the school board as a person who spoke out at a lot of meetings and would then be considered a troublemaker … I think #35 happened to be selected and then they over-rode that selection.

I see what you did there. What makes a news outlet “legitimate”? Is WaPo “legitimate” under Bezos. Is WTOP legitimate in their “hard hitting” reporting? Would a larger news outlet national (WaPo) or even regional (pick one) outlet report on such a local issue? Or would you expect a local, county news outlet to report on it:

https://www.fairfaxtimes.com/articles/area-residents-ask-what-happened-to-mother-no-35/article_b904ab6c-faac-11ef-9d3c-c3bb6b474982.html

Ah, but this particular reporter and this publication has reported on FCPS in the past so this must not be “legitimate.”

That is hilarious. Legitimately hilarious.

“They discovered a typo” is quite the euphemism for picking someone who disagrees with the board and then reselecting to get someone else. If it was something innocuous, FCPS would have explained it by now. Their silence speaks volumes.

You’re a shill or a gatehouse employee, plain and simple.

“When FCPS released the final boundary review committee list, a name was notably missing: parent No. 35. The Fairfax County Times is not disclosing her name because she is afraid of school district officials retaliating against her children.

According to local parents, parent No. 35 is a Great Falls mother who has regularly emailed the school board, submitting complaints against a lack of transparency in the redistricting process and voicing concerns that the board is pushing an agenda; she has also emailed Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s office and other state entities.”

How do you get “discovered a typo” out of that? Are you hoping people simply believe what you say on this anonymous blog and don’t do their own research, or are you really just uninformed and spouting off what sounds good?

Imagine, a parent complaining about a lack of transparency, being axed from this selection process. Oh, the irony! Talk about an agenda...

Of course it’s not. It shows 1 error on 1 list of dozens. No proof of “completely removed names”.

But the Langley crowd won’t be satisfied until the rest of the county bows to their demands.
