Have you ever heard the name Witten?

I know someone who just named her son Witten. I’ve never heard the name.

My dad graduated from Wittenberg University. Is there some tie to the university, or to Germany, or to Lutheranism?

I know a family with that last name.

I’ve only heard of it as a last name. Are they going to call him Witt? I have a friend who wanted to use Whitt and struggled with what that would he short for.

Yes I have a friend who named her son this but I think it was spelled Whitten

Cowboys tight end (surname). Don't like it as a given name, but I don't like the surname-for-first name thing in general. I guess it's slightly better than the "intentionally macho" surnames like Hunter, Walker, Remington, etc.

I know someone with the last name Whitten. I think it would be a great first name — especially if it’s a family name.

In Dutch "witten" means "something that is white". Or, as a verb, "to whiten" something.

"De witte auto" -- the white car.
"We witten de muur" -- we're whitewashing the wall.
