Want to visit a pick-your-own farm, but not sure if porta-potty is safe from covid

Anonymous
We want to pick apples and be autumnal. However, the usual farms we visit use porta potties. Seems like going into a literal box of poo and pee for even 30 seconds is all but guaranteeing covid contraction. My 5 and 8 year olds probably can't hold it that long. The boy can pee outside, but girl never has. Are people going to these places? What are you doing for bathrooms? The drive is 45 mins or so for us so holding it isn't an option.

What are you thinking?

Seriously if you have to go on the internet to figure this out it is the wrong choice!

Try and use your brain.

As girls peeing outside it can be done. or buy a camping toilet

A Public Health crisis really OP......

What? I'm wondering if other people think porta potties are a terrible idea or if I'm over reacting. We haven't been doing too much since March and would like to finally do something fun. Why is it crazy to ask for ideas?

You’re not going to get COVID from a port a potty.

Get a camping toilet and keep it in the car. You may want it for future outings too.

Yes the porta potty is a COVID risk. Ignore the people who attacked you for it. It is an enclosed space and it is filled with human waste.

Buy a portable potty for your car. Even just a toddler potty. Adults can use it too.

Isn't a port a potty safer than regular restroom? At least there is no one else in it. Wear a mask and sanitize afterward.

I don't understand concern with human waste - they cannot transmit disease.

And THIS is a prime example of why we don’t seek medical advice from a website.

Girls can pee outside. Find a tree. Do a wall sit against it, and try to aim your hips more downwards. Pee, shake/wiggle off any excess. Done.

Isn't the flush the concern? and porta potties have no flush?

I wear a mask and sanitize when using a port a potty.

Yes. Porta potties not a concern for me. I have used them several times over the summer

Porto potties are a terrible idea in the best of times!

This. Take your own hand sanitizer and wipes. Take extra masks if you want. Being in there for a minute while peeing is not going to give you COVID. Touching something and touching your face might. So keep the hands clean.

So guys...you know how they’re testing wastewater coming from dorms for Covid to detect infection faster? That’s because you shed virus in your poop before you show symptoms and sometimes before you would even test positive. Poop is highly infectious for Covid, and walking into a box where it marinates all day in the sun is absolutely not safer than somewhere that it can be flushed away.
