Infertility Support and Discussion
|
I am unsure if I should try to go to a fertility specialist at this point, and I was hoping for some advice. I will try not to make this too long, but this is my basic history: ectopic pregnancy in august 2005, pregnant and had a healthy baby march 2007, miscarriage december 2007. We are trying again to conceive number 2, but I am not sure how long to wait before I get more help. My regular OB doesn't seem to be concerned about me conceiving again, and I know it has only been 3 months since the miscarriage, but it was so stressful going through all of those months of TTC before my DD was born, I don't know if we can take it again. I know many people try for years sometimes, so I am probably just being impatient, I just don't want to wait too long if something can be done about it.
Thanks in advance for the advice! |

OP - in reading your post it looks like you have had three pregnancies in 2 1/2 years. That probably means that getting pregnany is not too difficult for your body. That being said, you have had two terrible events post pregnancy with the ecyopic and miscarriages...and I am sorry you had to go through either let alone both.
IMO - trying to conceive with fertility txs is just as stressful as trying without them and they may not be any more successful intially and are certainly more expensive. My OB recommended fertility after 8 months but mostly b/c I was almost 35 at the time - if I were even a year or two younger he would have waited until 1 year. That being said you have to do what feels most comfortable for you. In the beginning they do mostly testing and your OB can start with some basic bloodwork and male fertility testing w/o starting the fertility route to give you a head start. It took us 3 years even with fertility tx to have a successful pregnancy - they best thing to do is the hardest thing to do. Try to relax and realize that it can take longer than we want sometimes but the more we stress about it - the harder and perhaps more harmful it is to our goal. Good luck! |
JMO - You need to try to relax. I know it's frustrating but try to enjoy this time with your DD. It does not sound like you have much difficulty conceiving. Have you tried charting or reading "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" ? I just started charting and I think I was off on my ovulation days.. therefore making it more difficult to conceive.
I have had a normal pregnancy in 2005 and have been trying to get pregnant for the last year with #2 with two m/c. (one in Julu and one in December) Yes I am getting impatient and frustrated too but all this is normal and at least for me.. I am far from seeking professional advice. Good luck to you |

If you think you're stressed out trying to conceive naturally, just try going to a fertility specialist and constantly having to go in for appointments for bloodwork/sonograms, etc! As someone who has been through both- I definitely recommend that "natural" way if you can possible conceive that way.

| 17:20 again - Also, if you haven't... check out fertilityfriend.com! Seriously, it makes charting totally simple! |
| If you are over 35-get checked out after about 6 mos. of trying au naturel. If you are under 35, they recommend waiting a year but it wouldn't hurt to get a fertility work up done sooner than that if you prefer. |
I second this advice. It can take a few months to get appointments, so you might want to start soon. Going to fertility specialists can be stressful, but for me it was also calming. I knew that finally I was doing something more proactive than charting (which never worked for me) and that the experts were finally going to help me get my baby. (I'm now the mom of two, thanks to LOTS of help.) Also, I'm sure you already know this, but make sure your DH gets tested before YOU have any invasive tests (I'm thinking the dye test, etc.). I think a full fifty percent of infertility issues are due to male factor IF. Resolve.org has a BB about "getting started" re: IF. I know they have one about miscarriages, and I think they might also have one about secondary IF. I bet you'll meet some very knowledgeable people there who are in the same position as you! Good luck to you! |
