My potential future employer just scheduled a drug test for me for Weds. It would really be better for me if I wait a few days or a week. The email said I could call to reschedule, but it seems a little obvious since the test is for "anytime between now and Weds 10AM." Or maybe they don't care? Could I call and say, "hey, next Friday would be better for me?..."
FWIW it's a low end job at an auto dealership. Not the usual DCUM circumstance, I realize. Thanks. |
| Hmmm. I'm in HR. If I had an applicant reschedule a drug test without a good reason, I would assume they were worried they'd test positive. What are you going to do if they perform random drug tests? |
| Car dealers don’t care about weed. We ignore a positive for that. |
This is probably true, but you can say you are waiting on covid test results to come back for someone you were in conact with |
+1 perfect excuse |
Yup. Or you can even say you've been battling a cold and are quarantining until it's gone. |
Do this. Spend the extra time flushing your system. |
Then we will expect to see the results to see if we were exposed when you interviewed, etc. It’s far from a perfect excuse, again if it’s weed, just take the test. |
Don’t take the advice to take the test anyway. Take the advice that you are waiting on covid results due to close contact. In fact, maybe even go get a covid test to back up your story. |
+1 - HR professional. |
| this is a default of the system they use to order the tests. Some default to 3 days to complete unless they extend it. It's not really a big deal to extend it and I wouldn't even ask why (I do schedule these). I wouldn't offer an excuse other than you can't make it by the expiration date. |

Use the COVID excuse. They will delay it for a week or more.
Keep your nose clean in the interim. Good luck! |
| At my job, you would be presumed to be positive if you tried this. If you were waiting on Covid results, you would have to prove it. |
| drink tons of pickle juice, it works |
| Also, exercise heavily every day |
