Teen clothes shopping

Do you still pick out and buy clothes for your teens? Or just have them purchase, and you reimburse? My 13yo DD wants to ‘go shopping’ which during these times would be online. So far, I’ve been doing it all myself and just return things that don’t fit.

I mostly still do it all -- but once I put possibilities in the cart, I run them by her and she yays or nays. She doesn't look on her own.

we do the opposite- they put stuff in the cart, I get final approval (mostly trying to teach sale/clearance shopping and avoiding retail)

I don't allow them to buy anything without me until late teens. They can bring a friend if they want but I will not just give them money to go on their own. When DD turned 17 I let her start buying on her own.

By then she understood how to look for quality, straight seams, how clothes should fit, etc.

This makes sense.

My 14 yo does all of the leg work, then shows me the items. If I'm ok with them then I place the final order.

My 17 yo hates clothes shopping. I'll get told "I need a new pair of black shorts" and I find something in the right style/size then ask for a quick approval from DC. The kid isn't picky and generally likes the same things over and over, so it's fairly quick and easy to find something.

For my 16yr old, I buy the stuff. If I left it up to him, he'd be wearing pants from 3 years ago that hit about mid-calf and t-shirts with stains and holes. Apparently he's inherited my father's fashion sense. Fortunately he'll wear whatever I buy.

My 13 yr old DD picks stuff out online and sets it up in the shopping cart. I do go through it with her and then i purchase. My 16 yr old DS couldn’t care less about clothes shopping. He wears t-shirts, hoodies, athletic pants and sweatpants. If he needs something he tells me and I buy it (he will specify color and after that doesn’t care). I did buy him jeans he needed (he will wear them only if he has to). I stopped picking out my kids wardrobe with no input from them before age 10.

We have some girls who spend the summer with us (except this year) and I always take them each shopping alone several times and we do it together.

I have a boy who couldn't care less and tells me to pick it all out so I do and just return it if it doesn't fit (athletic clothing and shirts are easy so I usually buy ahead and put away) and if he finds things like sneakers he likes, I buy the next size up.

With a girl it depends on the girl. If she was responsible with money and going with friends, I'd tell her the budget, my expectations, talk about what she needs and let her buy it with a credit card (or she can send a picture for approval) as we can always return it.

I'm taking my 13 year old shopping in the next week. We will hit Old Navy and Target since I feel comfortable taking her into stores (with masks and hand sanitizer).

I go with my 13 year old. She has good taste and I usually let her buy what she likes! Sometimes I’ll find things she didn’t notice or overlooked. It’s fun. I actually like shopping with her.

Starting at 11 dd did it all herself (finding items online among 5 sites or so). She is 13 now, but has fun doing a 'spree' picking 2-3k worth of items, then narrows it down.

I get final say and will decide what I'm willing to pay for. Other stuff she wants (like things I know she won't actually wear) she might pay or remove from cart.

Now that she's older, she uses my credit card and completes all the orders after I approve them. It's a 2k limit card I use for online only.

DS is 10 and we order off 1-2 sites and I check for sales, and when there is a good one he sits with me and we go through it together.

They show me what they want and I buy it. They are particular about brands but don’t want a lot, so we mostly just get it.

I'm willing to purchase things that I approve. If teens want to spend their own money, they can buy anything they want. They can wear anything that covers breasts and genitals outside of their bedroom.
