Infertility Support and Discussion
| Is anyone else trying to conceive after an ectopic pregnancy? I had an ectopic last September and we're about to start TTC again and I'm really nervous. Can anyone share some success stories? |
| I first just want to say I am sorry for your loss and having to deal with the pain and stress of an ectopic. I had one in August of 2005, and although it took me to June of 2006, I now have a healthy baby girl who is turning one tomorrow. It was hard for me because I didn't get a lot of good advice from my doctor's office, so hopefully you have had a different experience, but I did continue to have pain for almost 6 months after the ectopic. I hope you have a speedy recovery and that you are successful again soon! |
| My mom had an ectopic pregnancy and was pregnant again with my brother within a few months. This was 25 years ago. Then she had my other brother a year after that. Both pregnancies were uneventful and both boys were healthy. Best of luck to you. |
| Thank you for your replies. We're getting ready to start trying again and I'm feeling a bit anxious, but hopeful that everything will work out. I'm getting conflicting opinions from doctors -- one ob said that we should try for 6 months before seeing a specialist, and another said to go ahead and do the HSG test. I think we're just going to try and see. After a month of testing before the ectopic and then the emergency surgery, I'm feeling a bit leary of more testing. |
| I had an ectopic pregnancy in June of 2005 and had to have surgery to remove it. I also lost a tube. I had a miscarriage the following summer in 2006. I got pregnant again in Jan 2007 and gave birth to a health baby girl September 2007. I am proof that it can happen.... |
| sorry about your experience...in 2003 i had a ruptured ectopic pregnancy that resulted in the loss of the use of that tube...i was pregnant again 3 months later...(and we weren't even trying)..i had a healthy pregnancy and baby...good luck |
| OP here...we've been trying for 2 cycles and no luck so far...I know it hasn't been that long yet so hopefully all will go well. I'll keep you posted. |

I'm reviving this old thread because I have the same question. (I had an ectopic pregnancy earlier this month that seems to working itself out with a little help from methotrexate.)
So does anyone have any new success stories since the last post to this thread back in 2008? I could use some happy news as we wait patiently with hopes of TTC again in a month or two. |

I had an ectopic rupture and lost a tube in the Fall of 2004. I had two miscarriages in the following year and a bunch of failed IUIs. With my age (38 at the time) and having only one tube we decide to go with IVF. Our gorgeous B/G twins are now three. So...while my story isn't perfect by any stretch of the immagination, it is a success and can happen.
For the last post the was able to have the ectopic disolved, I'd recommend have your tubes checked to be sure there won't be a problem again. My OB strongly recommends against using that drug because of the possibility of reoccurance. sorry. |

Many thanks. Your advice is right on point -- I've been thinking this week about whether to have an HSG test to check the tubes once my cycle resets. Will ask my dr. when I'm in on Thurs. (As an aside, I've heard mixed things about the pain w/HSG, but it's quick and apparently sometimes gives a boost to TTC.)
Congratulations on your twins!!

I also had an ectopic and similar experience to PP where we eventually went with IVF and have b/g twins (I had other fertility issues, as well). My best friend got pregnant right after her HSG. Apparently if there is any blockage it often helps push that through and clears the tubes for a healthy pregnancy. I've heard the HSG is more painful if there is a blockage. Mine was not painful at all, just like mild cramps. |
