My parents are moving from a large house to a small apartment in assisted living, so they are getting rid of a lot of their furniture. One piece is a family heirloom that I would like to have; It is an antique cabinet that is 80 inches tall x 30 inches wide x 17 inches deep. My parents live in San Diego.
I've tried googling and am not really coming up with what I need. Any recommendations for a specific company or even just the right words/terms to use when googling? Thank you! |
| Are you looking for the safest or cheapest? You could just have your parents take it to FedEx and have them (Fedex) package and ship it. |
| Perhaps a Pod moving company? |
| Did furniture shipping not give you any google results? |
| Thanks! Unfortunately my parents are in poor health and unable to actually pack/lift the cabinet themselves, so things like fed ex or pods that they pack themselves won’t work. |
Thank you! This is very helpful! |

You can do white glove delivery but across the country will probably cost more than the piece is worth (at least $1,000 in fees).

When I was googling I was getting results for things more like the POD systems, which won’t work since my parents can’t move it themselves. I will need a company that can send movers into my parents house to get the cabinet. |
| Check out uline shipping. |

I did this years ago but ended up taking a bunch of stuff. My parents basically kept adding to the pile. It was a portion of a cross country Moving van through one of the big moving companies. Basically, they find someone moving between the two states that won’t use a whole truck and add your stuff on the back.
The other option I saw was to look at auction house websites and see who they use for cross country shipping. If you call an antiqhe store near your parents house and just ask, they may tell you who they use. |
| I did this years ago with a company called mini moves. They wait till there is extra space on a truck and add your item. It was expensive and took forever but it worked. |
| I used mini moves to move a piece of furniture from my aunt’s house in Florida and everything went great! |

For that kind of money, consider what else you want to take

| Have you tried looking up moving & storage companies? If you’re not in a hurry, call companies on both ends of the trip to see if your piece can be added onto another move. You could also call local companies you trust, explain the situation, and ask who the would recommend. |
