Sugarloaf Mountain - how crowded

Anonymous
Anybody been on the weekends during the pandemic? How crowded has it been?

We tried to go last Sunday around 1:30 or so and it was mobbed. We just turned the car around and left.

When we've gone lately, we've gotten there not long after 8. The lower parking (for the yellow trail) is completely full by then. The east and west lots on the mountain looked to be about half full by 8:30-9. When we leave in the early afternoon, they're always completely full.

Trails that go to the summit are very busy, even early. The yellow trail and the blue trail, less so.

It was crazy when we were there a few weeks back

It’s like everyone suddenly discovered hiking when they could no longer go to the movies. Annoying.

You never know but you have to choose to visit very early in the day, pre lunch or post lunch. Or you can go right before the sun sets, like 5pm and make it down by 7pm.

Wait until it gets a bit colder. Most of these people aren't very hardy.

So only you are allowed to go hiking? What is annoying is your attitude not the people trying to exercise!

PS it isn't me as I am walking in my neighborhood.

It wasn’t crowded when we went last weekend. People start climbing and get tired. Lot of fatties turn around.

It was awful when we tried to go on Labor Day weekend.

Sorry that you are so pathetic that you continue to bully people despite being a grown-ass adult.

There are so many nice trails around here, why Sugarloaf Sugarloaf Sugarloaf?

Selfishly I don’t mind because that means fewer people on my trails!

Agree! Let them futz about on the mountain while I bomb down the waterfall slides hidden in VA

I don’t think he meant it as a dig. It’s generally true. Most people don’t enjoy hiking in cold weather. If you want solitude, go when it’s colder and you’ll be alone.
