Maple-Bacon Chocolate Chip Cookies Ingredients * 2 cups all-purpose flour * 1 teaspoon baking powder * 1 teaspoon baking soda * 1/2 teaspoon salt * 1 cup butter, room temperature * 3/4 cup packed brown sugar * 3/4 cup white sugar * 2 eggs * 1 teaspoon vanilla extract * 1 teaspoon maple extract * 1/3 cup chopped cooked bacon * 1 cup bittersweet chocolate chips Directions 1. Preheat an oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper. Whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt; set aside. 2. Beat together the butter, brown sugar, and white sugar with an electric mixer until smooth. Add one egg; beat until blended into the butter mixture. Add the remaining egg, vanilla extract, and maple extract; beat until well blended and slightly fluffy. Stir in the flour mixture a little at a time, mixing just until combined. Stir in the bacon and chocolate chips. Scoop by rounded tablespoonfuls onto prepared cookie sheets. 3. Bake in the preheated oven until edges turn golden brown, 10 to 12 minutes. Remove from the oven, and cool on a wire rack. |
| My DH got a present of bacon chocolate from a friend (the same friend has also sent bacon vodka, which was undrinkable). He used it to make bacon chocolate pancakes. They weren't terrible, but not great. The chocolate had a strange aftertaste, which I'm sure was from the bacon flavoring added to it. The pancakes toned that down a bit. But the recipe you gave shouldn't have that problem since real bacon is used. |
| Not sure about the maple part, but I have a friend who makes bacon-chocolate chip cookies and everyone swears they are to die for. I've never tasted them, though. But the sweet/salty combo makes sense. |

I'm obsessed with all the Food Network competition shows like Chopped and Iron Chef. In Chopped, they have to make meals with whatever ingredients are in the basket and I watched an episode where they had to make deserts with bacon. One girl candied it and added it to hers. Apparently bacon can get really sweet and desertish.
I think the bacon pancakes sound delicious! That reminds me of McDonald's McGriddles that have the bacon, egg and cheese inbetween two syrup infused pancakes. Bacon goes so great with syrup and pancakes! Bacon vodka....no thanks. |

OP here
Hmm Bacon Vodka? Maybe not straight but I bet it makes an amazing Bloody Mary. I'm becoming obsessed with Bacony desserts. It started after I saw an episode of No Reservations. Tony went to someplace in I want to say Portland that had a bacon maple donut. Good that thing looked good! |
I've only seen that show - No Reservations - once and that was the epsidose I saw. I so wanted to fly there and get a donut. |
That would be Voodoo Doughnut. I haven't been, but if I ever go, my choice will be the bacon maple bar. http://www.voodoodoughnut.com/ |
| There's a place in Rehoboth Beach that sells bacon ice cream. Never tried it. |
Op here. Damn too bad they dont ship. I told DH about the cookie recipe when I found it and he was suitably horrified. Fast forward to Sunday and we were going to brunch at Redwood in Bethesda when we noticed what was left of the farmer's market. DH started chatting up the guy he just bought pickles from and it turns out that he's A) really a chocolatier and B) makes Chocolate Covered Bacon. And I really wanna try the Bacon Ice Cream. |
