Lexile scores ?

Anonymous
My older elementary kids both just took their beginning of the year reading assessments. I have their scores from last spring before school went remote. One child’s score went down 4 points (so basically stayed the same), the other child also basically stayed the same. My kids are huge readers, I can barely keep up with their library check outs and holds, they read all levels (meaning we don’t restrict what they read if it’s too easy or hard, we just let them read whatever they are interested in). Should I be concerned? Particularly with no end to DL likely in the next few months?

Well how are they according to grade average?

This would not worry me, as long as they were at or above grade level. Reading a lot for fun doesn't mean that they are reading things that challenge them, and even if they are reading "harder" books, it doesn't mean they aren't skipping over words they don't understand, skimming over the details, etc. I'd worry if they regressed or remained below grade level.

Exactly, as long as they are on or above grade level I wouldn't worry about it.
