Was looking at used Acuras and for the $27,000 one off lease would cost, trying to decide if I am better off with a new mainstream car. Seems at least I would not be worrying about prior maintenance. Yes, you give up some leather and soundproofing, but with stability control, traction control, anti-lock brakes, etc. how they drive is not radically different.
If you have debated this, what was your decision? |
| Acura is terrible quality these days. All of the other brands you should buy new. There is no point buying a used Lexus, Honda or Toyota unless you are looking for a 15 year old beater. |
| These days old cars have gotten extraordinarily expensive. Often it is now worth buying new if there is significant mileage on a used car, plus the added maintenance costs that come with an older car. |
| Buy a new Toyota. Not Honda unless it’s a civic/accused/pilot. |
| I had a new Honda Accord for almost 11 years and recently sold it & then bought my FIL’s Lexus that he had leased for 3 years then bought at the end of the lease. He took such good care of it though - it was like getting a new car. I like both cars. |
| We recently bought a new Acura sedan for less than the similarly equipped Honda of the same size. No issues so far and really like the car. |
| How many years old are you thinking? The safety features of new cars makes it worth thinking about new. |
| I would buy a new Toyota. They last for ages, minimal maintenance, and the allure of vanity cars is lost on me. |
The newer Toyota exterior designs are terrible. |
Why is Acura so bad now? |
Is that a new car? OP - get a new car. this one isn't even close. |
| I have a 2018 acura and love it! |

I'd much rather be in a used Lexus than a new Toyota/Honda/Subaru.
However, for the price of a used Lexus I'd probably dig back another year or two and get an older Mercedes. But that's my preference. |
| But a new Toyota. The technology has changed quite a bit I. The past three years. Plus some people really really ride their cars rough. I’ve seen a lot. |
No, Lexus holds their value MUCH better than Mercedes. Especially the SUVs. After 3 years, a GX460 with a 65K MSRP and a GLS450 with an 85K MSRP are both going to be worth ~45k. |
