tree leaning toward our house

We have a three story tall magnolia tree in the front yard that is leaning toward our house. Is there anything to do???
We wont be in the bedroom it'll hit but it is really nerve wrecking looming so large.
This is no fun anymore.

go out and knock the snow off?

A tree just fell in front of my apartment building and almost hit my kitchen window (I could hear and see the top part touching the glass and scratching the wall before falling. Really nerve wrecking.

I don't know if there is much you can do, but just remember to take the tree down when the weather clears. While this will be a lot of snowfall by tomorrow night, the accumulation at this time is not all that unusual, so you can expect to have this issue come back again in the not-too-distant future.

Yes, knock the snow off. It may or may not help though.

I think we're going to lose several evergreens to this storm. My husband went out late last night to knock snow off of them, but they are leaning almost to the ground right now. Luckily they won't fall on the house or anything.

I knocked the snow off my pine trees last night, but couldn't do anything overnight and the weight brought down some pretty large branches. luckily there was so much snow on my car, it acted as a cushion so no harm done.

OP, are you from the desert? It's funny to me how afraid of trees people can be if they are from someplace that has few.

In places where people are used to having trees (fresh air and all), they would not touch a tree unless it puts them in imminent harm.

If the tree is truly going to fall over your house * though I have never seen a magnolia that big! * try to shake the snow off of it.

Don't fear the trees, otherwise, unless they endanger a wire. And of course, never touch a wire (or anything touching a wire).

This is why I will never live in an "established" neighborhood like Chevy Chase. The trees are out of control.

Maybe this will teach everyone a lesson about the importance of eradicating nature rather than looking to "live in harmony" or whatever nonsense.

OP, so nice when posters make it all about THEM, isn't it?

We also have a,lot of trees that have limbs hanging low and/or that are leaning. They are smaller trees, but of course I am worried, as you are. DS and I have been trying to shake as much snow off the limbs as possible. The problem with our trees is that they have growth and berries on them, so THAT is what is weighing them down. Apparently, the snow is twice as heavy this time as it was in December--ie, VERY heavy. If you can do it SAFELY--ie, there are no power lines in the way--try to take some of the snow off the branches/growth. Good luck.

How exactly do you knock snow off a 4 story tree? Serious question, our evergreens are huge and close to the house.

Can you lasso a branch with a rope and pull/shake? Stand back though, in case a branch snaps and comes down.

We had a very large branch fall off of a tree in our front yard last night from the weight of the snow. I agree it makes it rather nerve wracking -- my neighbor (a very sweet, widowed, senior citizen) has four enormous, never-been-pruned evergreened that I think would completely crush our house. But what can we do?

We lost a tree this am into the neighbor's yard. Took down part of a fence. Feel fortunate that it did not land on a house, car or person.

We have a magnolia that is over two stories between our house and our neighbor's house. They can and do get very big.
