Any other clubs have body caliper body fat % done to start season
So far only G team done. What’s value in this for a growing athlete? |
| Scientific result communicates as data v eye test comes across as derogatory. Speed kills. Fat kills speed |
gross |
then clock them running |

Fitness matters. And it is a self controllable factor.
Rose Lavalle runs wind sprints after practice, others didn’t. Before she did she struggled to make USWNT. More youth should improve their fitness to play. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3289201/ “BF discriminated female starter players from substitutes (21.8% vs. 24.3% respectively)[3]. In male soccer players, BF, fat mass (FM) and FFM differences according to position were recorded [4–6].” “Child and adolescent players, aged 9–14.9 y had a significantly lower BF than reference population[8]. Starters players, aged 10–14 y, were leaner than substitutes[9]. Variation of body composition according to playing position was reported in players with 14–21 years of age[10], and in players with 16–18 years of age[11], in which defenders were characterized with lower BF. Moreover, 14–17-year-old successful players were taller, heavier and leaner than their non-selected ” |

Gross.
I was a super skinny kid in middle school. But I still remember the shame and embarrassment of caliper testing in MS PE class. I am certain there are better ways to measure someone's fitness level. |
+1 I've seen "fat" kids outrun skinny kids quite a bit. Obviously obese kids can't, but there's no guarantee a girl with 14% bodyfat will be a faster runner or better soccer player than one with 20% bodyfat. Save the calipers for the doctor's office, where they belong. |
does anyone think that girls, especially girls who play competitive sports don't already know if they have excess fat? Do the people who think this is a good idea think that teenage and preteen girls are known for healthy body image? are they hoping to give girls eating disorders? |
then have the kids run wind sprints. Tell them your keeping score if you really want them to bust their asses |
They do. First thing any elite club team does during tryouts is line the players up and see who is the fastest. The fastest make the team, rest can go home. |
Yes every 12 year old kid should train like the pros do.
|
I'd rather my 12 year old daughter running than getting a caliper test |
|
i would walk away from any club that does this. people are so obsessed with the way kids look. they are kids. none of them will ever get paid for playing soccer
Time after time you see the kid who doesn't look like all the others yet they are the best ones on the field. |
LOL - that is most certainly NOT what elite clubs do. |
| Just stepping back- either the coach (creepy) or the club decided to purchase calipers to measure preteen girls - gross |
