My kids want to go on their iPads after virtual school all day

My boys jumped on Minecraft and roblox. They have gotten used to playing everyday.

Are you allowing kids to be on screens AFTER being in virtual school all day?

They both do play soccer. One kid has practice later today.

My middle schooler (7th) is on her tablet right now. Just them have some free time, even if it's screens. Their choice. This virtual school thing is stressful. Cut the cord for a bit.

How old are they?

I don't micro manage what my high school kid does in his free time and some is netflix but some is shooting hoops in the driveway. Might depend on age of kid and whether or not generally responsible and whether or not exercise every day.

No. Which sucks because I'd like nothing more than to give them Epic or some TV while I make dinner.

My kids do this too (9 and 11) - I let them from 3:30 to 4:30 because that is how they want to decompress. Then, at 4:30 we have outside time for an hour (usually bike riding or scootering)

My kids are asking for screens way less but I do let them get 30 minutes of “free time” screens each day. We do at least an hour outside, either in the morning or after 3 pm.

This is very sad

Not unless they earn extra time with extra chores.

I just forced my 7- and 5-year-old off their devices. They weren’t happy but I told them we HAD to go outside for 45 minutes before they could do anything else. They are now happily playing in sand.

They are still little enough that I can control their routine, so I think this is going to be our new things. Their little bodies need to move.

Op here. My boys are also 9 and 11. I am going to let them play for a few more minutes and then go on a bike ride.

I set their chrome books to shut off at 5 p.m. (School ends at 4.) Problem solved!

11yr old and I said no. Outside and/or inside activities both exercise and whatever else she chooses to do that doesn't involve a screen. She's now getting online 90min after school ended to hang out with some friends on Zoom which I'm okay with, but she knows that there isn't screen time during the week during the school year.

Might ease up on that, but since they're going to be in front of a computer for most of the day at least for the next few months, her non-school screen time will be limited.

I am letting them play Minecraft right now, actually. It’s been a long, overwhelming first day of school, and if they want to decompress for a while, so be it.

Same. Mine are watching YouTube garbage (home run derby etc) but it's how they relax. Both super athletic and tons of time outside.

I told them they need a screen break. Not sure what time I will allow free screen time on school days yet.
