how would you go about advertising for this?

Apart from in the nanny forum? We have had a wonderful nanny for 8 years. With number 4 on the way, we are looking for weekend help. Less a professional nanny, more a baysitter to help 6-8 hours with taking kids the playground, helping with lunch, playing at home etc. We live in nw dc. I am perfectly fine with a college student or even a seasoned high school student. This is somewhere between mother's helper and nanny. The last time I sought help, I placed an ad in the paper. Obviously times have changed. Are there good listserves to go to? I don't even know where one finds local listserves? Should I post signs on bulletin boards at local campuses? TIA!

Care.com

I know care.com has it’s haters here but we found the best weekend teacher/nanny there when even the expensive agency couldn’t find one suitable.

I think it is hard to get help to commit to weekends on a regular basis. My friend only has one infant and in the past 6 months has gone thru 6 Saturday nannies. Good weather like September now? Nanny has already called in sick this past Saturday. My friend pays $25 an hour cash for Saturday and /or Sunday for 8-3 (no chores, just childcare) and has not found anyone committed yet. Ends up she and her DH take turns much of the time. And it's a little scary during covid that so many nannies /babysitters/mothers helpers have come and gone.

"Helping" with lunch? How much will this young woman actually be doing compared with what parent is actually doing? Is housekeeping involved? How old are the kids? Asking a high school or college student to give up every Saturday-Sunday to take care of 3 kids is asking a lot, unless the pay is irresistible. I can see inevitable job creep (sorting laundry, etc.)

you may end up with the desperate -immigrant type. But they don't like working Sundays -- I've tried. They are family and church oriented.

I agree. I had to shift through a ton of candidates, go through a ton of interviews, but I lucked out on care. The first nanny we hired was good enough, but the second nanny we hired was amazing.

You have a full time nanny five days a week and now you.want a babysitter for the weekend. Why bother to have children if you don't want to spend any time with them? Accessory children.

Look, someone has to take care of the kids. OP and her husband are really busy and don't have time despite adding more kids.

It is the parents responsibility to care for their children!
