| DD is considering this for a safety. Her main reach is Georgetown so she likes the size, urban environment, Jesuit philosophy, close enough to home, etc. They're also known for giving money so no complaints from Mom. I was trying to figure out if it is in a safe area or not but I can't quite tell because I don't know enough about Baltimore, to be honest. It seems pretty close to the county line and is surrounded by other schools (both HS and college) but I know York Rd is known for having issues. DD wants a city school so we obviously understand that no area is going to be crime free but I don't want to send her to a school in the middle of a neighborhood filled with drive-bys and other major issues. Is anyone familiar with the school or area? |
| It is safe. Kids need to be street smart when they wander off campus but that is true of any city school. |
| Loyola is in north Baltimore. It's not far from Towson. It's in a nice area. I went there and did not ever feel unsafe. I used to take the bus up York Road to Towson to visit people. I never felt uncomfortable. It's a short drive. Go there and see it. |
| Loyola University is in an upscale old money part of the city, near Towson. Adjoins Notre Dame campus. It does not have an urban feel. Drive over and walk around the campus. Think is safe, but as noted above, students who venture further into the city or are out at 2am should be careful. |
| I visited back when I was looking - the campus is safe, but it also seemed like there was very little campus life going on. |
| Lovely campus. We went to a wedding in January at the school chapel. The surrounding neighborhood is nice. Agree with others any students in an urban city should be careful. |
| The neighborhood is fine, but I heard that going to bars in the city are a main weekend event. That is what you should worry about. That would not be safe on many levels. |
| Loyola alumni here. It’s in an area in North Baltimore City but a mile or two from the county line. I would say the surrounding neighborhoods are similar to Cleveland Park or Spring Valley. Beautiful old home’s surrounded by lots of parks. The only sketchy area is east of the campus along York Road. Lots of students go to bars around the city but I never felt unsafe in a group. There is now a great connector bus to Towson University, Hopkins, Goucher College and downtown Towson. I loved Loyola. |
| Just off campus Loyola is prolly as safe (or safer) than just off campus Georgetown. Just sayin. |
I heard taxis are inline to take students I'd rather have my student on a campus with things to do nearby, even if it's going to bars. Bars and nighlife on the edge of campus, ideally walkable. |
You'd rather have your kid's college campus surrounded by bars so kids can walk there? WTH? |
I would too. Kids are going to drink. Would rather have it in walking distance. |
Except it is illegal for those of those kids to drink in bars. So what gives? |
| My best friend went to Loyola and graduated over 10 years ago. It's a decent school in a nice area. A lot of students went to bars like everyone mentioned, but it's not an unsafe area. I went to college in an urban area that was worse than Loyola(Temple) and I turned out fine. |
| Loyola is in a very nice area of Baltimore except for the east side of campus along York Rd. |
