Preschool and Daycare Discussion
|
I am expecting my 1st in June & looking to start infant care in September. I toured Funshine today & it seemed like a nice place for kids. I would love some "real world" feedback from anyone who has children at the center or has friends with children at the center.
Thanks a ton!!! |
| My 6 month old DS started there when he was 12 weeks old and we love it! |

I think it's nice for the infants and toddlers but was unhappy with the quality of teaching at the 4-5 year old class level. For almost a year, the kids were recently without a lead teacher. One of the owners called herself the lead teacher but after a lot of pressure, it finally came out that she actually only was in the class for less than TWO hours a day. The school did not disclose this voluntarily and I was very dissatisfied with how this was handled. If I had to do it over again, I would make sure to coordinate with other parents at the first sign of "slack" from the Funshine owners and really push them to do something or report them to the state licensing board.

| I have several friends with children at Funshine who absolutely love it. Several of them switched from a different daycare center and found Funshine to be much better! They do a great job with parent communication, and the directors are very approachable. It also seems like the families there at Funshine have quite a sense of community, which is a nice plus for moms and dads learning how to be parents. |
| FWIW - I wasn't impressed with FUnshine. In particular the infant's room. Toured a couple months ago, and maybe I just caught it at a bad time. But all the babies were just sitting in seats or in a exersaucer and getting zero personal attention. One baby actually had a bottle propped up and it appeared empty. I know there's not much you can do with infants, but there were 2 teachers there and 4 babies and zero interaction.. |
| I started my son (now 8 months) at the Arlington Children's Center, which was nice, I especially liked the nannies in the infant room. But the owner (manager?) was quite rigid with rules, no drop off after 10, no pick up before 3. Thats fine, I understand the importance of routine, but I am a freelancer and wanted the flexibility to be with my kid when I wanted to. I switched him to Funshine when a spot opened up (10 months on the waiting list) and have been very happy there. I feel like he is loved by the nannys at Funshine. I am in and out at all hours, and, unlike the experience of the previous poster, I find the children are always being played with, entertained, fed, kept interested. The management is extremely kind and flexible. Just wanted to share my positive experience! |
| For the person who was at Arlington Children's Center, how in the world did you get in?? I'm a county employee who should get priority and we've been on the waiting list for 27 months ... I wasn't even pregnant yet when I put my daughter on! |
