Beauty and Fashion

Ok, I realize this sounds ridiculous and of course of all the things to bring up, this is pretty minor -- but, I can't seem to figure out when I lost all resemblance of a woman who looked somewhat put together, stylish, at least "in this decade" for fashion. I had my kids close together almost 5 years ago now and have worked and not worked, lost and gain weight, moved (lost clothes there!) and donated occasionaly. What I can't figure out though is how I whidled myself down to essentially work-out clothes (stretchy pants, t-shirts, etc), jeans, OR work clothes. I have nothing in between and although I enjoy shopping, cannot for the life of me figure out how to get out of this rut without spending a ton of money.
So what do other women wear aside from sweats and work clothes when they are in and around town, picking up their kids, meeting teachers, going for dinners, etc. I'm not sure when/how I got this way but feel like such a frumpy frump!! |
| Um- this should NOT be in general parenting disc. |
| this seems like a parenting topic to me. I have the same problem. I love just wearing yoga pants. not totally acceptable but I can't help it. |
| And when do I fit back into my regular clothes? It's been 15 weeks already. I cant take it anymore. I miss looking nice. |

Never sweats.
Work out pants/clothing only when I am actually in the process of working out--and I don't run errands in them, I go back home and take a shower and change. Jeans (dark rinse, slightly low rise, boot cut or slim cut), belt, sweaters. Leggings and riding style boots/tunic sweaters with wide belts. Slacks, but not dressy or work style, slightly more casual materials. Blazer. |
| I went to Kohl's and got a few outfits that would work for that sort of thing. I was tired of having rags to wear around. Try Kohl's and Target are my suggestions. |
| Start watching What Not to Wear...it helped me. I felt lost too after my DS, especially since nothing fits me yet. And I wore the worst clothing in the world while pregnant so it was a year since I looked nice. Less clothes but more outfits is better. |

Well, I work so that forces me to have some reasonable outfits.
I have found a great bag does wonders for my self esteem too and makes me feel put together, especially on work days. I figure a nice bag is something I use every day unlike an outfit. I have a mildly expensive ($300) Lodis leather bag, and a $12.99 Target bag, both of which I love pretty much equally! And I second Kohls and Target for clothes - you can find some cute stuff there. If you have a semi-fashionable friend, ask her for some starter advice. Most women love advising on that sort of thing! |
| Check In Style magazine. They often show cute outfits in a mid-price range. |
| I like Ann Taylor Loft for around-town clothes. My work clothes are tailored and pretty dressy, and I wear stuff with a slightly more bohemian style for errands. I wear jeans but I also wear skirts and boots and pants in other fabrics, lots of long-ish sweaters, scoop-neck t-shirts with some interesting detail, cowl-neck turtlenecks, a nice down vest, and some longish, lightweight scarves which aren't quite polished enough for work. |

I feel like OP too. My problem is compounded by the fact that I have now started working from home, so there's virtually no reason for me to get myself ready and looking presentable.
But I think even workout clothes now days can look quite presentable even if you're not actually going to work out--like Lululemon or Athleta. Nice yoga pants and jackets can look pretty fashionable. |

OP - I'm your kindred spirit.
I went out to eat with my husband the other night (a rare occasion) and realized I had nothing to wear. Nothing. I wear jeans and t-shirts on my non-workdays and business attire on workdays. Nothing for a casual night out. I was wondering how I got like this and wore one a new sweater (that I had bought after realizing my wardrobe was so bare) and my preschooler immediately rubbed his snotty nose on it and then started pulling on it (to get me to come play with him). It was then that I realized WHY I always wore t-shirts. Normal clothes get ruined. Maybe in a few more years. But I can't for the life of me put an outfit togethor anymore. |
