Does recruiting happen at Futstars?

Anonymous
Hi folks,

Are players being recruited or recommended for teams at the Futstars program?

HP Elite has a policy of being a "no recruiting zone" and from my experience I feel that they stick to it. People may reach out individually, but if you want to play for PWSI or for one of the coaches, you still have to go through the normal channels.

This year, I've heard of some players being referred to teams or being contacted by coaches through their participation in Futstars.

Does anyone know more about this?

Why does everyone hate recruiting so much? It happens in all stages of life. In almost every aspect as well. Your choosing to play competitive soccer so compete for players.

Can you explain your concern?

Not clear to me whether the OP is upset, or whether he wants to know if spending his money on futstars is going to get him a recruiting opportunity. If he is indeed upset, I too am struggling to see what the problem is.

We get emails all of the time to come out. My kids are not affiliated with Arlington or any other coach that runs Fustars.

No way we were doing that drive.

Awesome. Thanks for sharing. Such a useful post. I can add that I have been getting emails from HP Elite lately and we are not affiliated with any of those coaches and I chose for my kid not to do it.

Someone asked if they recruit? The poster responded they get emails, but were not 'recruited' as they have no affiliation or reason to be receiving emails.

I think if you attended a DA ID session with Arlington, you are put on their distribution list whether you made it or not.

There appears to be some confusion here.

The OP appears to have been concerned about kids who attended Futstars being recruited to local clubs (presumably Arlington or Sterling?), and contrasted this with HP Elite who he claimed did not recruit. I'm not quite sure exactly what the OP thought was happening and why he thought it might be a problem. I doubt that kids attending futstars are getting unsolicited offers to join Sterling or Arlington for example based on their attendance at Futstars, but even if they were I'm not sure why it would be a problem.

This has now morphed into a suggestion that Futstars recruits kids from Arlington. This is very likely prohibited by the coach's contract with Arlington, in which case it would be unethical. However I also happen to know that this does NOT happen. If your kid plays for Arlington you wll NOT get an invite to Futstars unless you have either previously attended a Futstars course or made an enquiry or otherwise proactively indicated that you are interested in hearing about Futstars. This is also true for HP Elite and VDA/PWSI.

I also know that some parents send their kids to Futstars hoping to catch the coach's eye and get a spot on an Arlington academy team (and the same applies to HP Elite and PWSI/VDA). Again I don't see anything wrong with this, but I do know that Arlington recruits from anywhere and everywhere for the academy teams, there is huge demand, and the coaches will give the spots to the best players whether or not they have attended Futstars. Try outs are held and players of interest (maybe 8-10 out of 50+ for an age group) are then typically asked to attend several practices with the team before a decision is made. Attending Futstars does not short circuit this process - or at least not that I have seen. It does perhaps ensure that the coaches have a better feel for your ability level so making it more likely that a player who is good enough gets recognized for being good enough, but equally that a player who is not good enough is so recognized as well.

And finally FWIW - in my opinion both HP Elite and Futstars offer enjoyable and excellent training. I would heartily recommend either - and plenty of kids attend both.

Think it's likely the opposite actually. Futstars is a private business free to market to anyone it wants to in any way which works. However the principals are likely bound by contract not to market to contacts that they received through their work at a club. That said there is almost certainly contract language allowing them to market to contacts that they have acquired in some other way (e.g. existing futstars customers or incoming enquiries, and probably contacts acquired via other methods as well - e.g. purchased contact lists) even if those contacts are also associated with the club.

So I would think that you probably would not receive Futstars marketing solely because you attended an Arlington DA ID session. However if your kid's club agreed to provide a mailing list to Futstars (or Fitstars purchased such a list from a third party) then they might well send you an e-mail.

I'm speculating about most of this - but it would be typical in this type of situation. The only thing I know for sure is that my DC played for Arlington and never received any Futstars info until we independently discovered the program and signed up for it. Since then we have received e-mails.
