Hello, DS will be 1 at the beginning of December, at which point I would like to stop breastfeeding, and begin the process to try for #2 in January (we have a couple frozen embryos). Do I schedule a consult before I stop breastfeeding? Wait til after? I go to GWU. What is the timeline like? Will Covid affect any of the timing? Assuming all things go well (which I know is a mighty big assumption), I'd like them roughly 2 years apart. Thank you for any insight.
I’m not at GWU, but I checked in with my doctor when my son was about 10 months old and gave them the heads up I would want to do an FET after he turned one. They wanted me to get some bloodwork done and also made me wait a certain number of weeks after finishing breastfeeding and then we proceeded pretty quickly to the FET (the first of which ended in miscarriage but eventually got around to having son #2)
Thank you! |
I'm not in DC, but I scheduled my first FET when DS was 10 months (I had been combo feeding b/c of low supply and weaned completely around 8.5 months). First FET failed, so then I did an ERA and scheduled the next FET for the following month. 35 weeks pregnant now from that FET and kiddos will be about 22 months apart. I did not need to schedule a consult, I just emailed my RE/nurse and we went from there once she confirmed I had completely weaned. Good luck!
I'm not at GW but I suggest calling soon. My son will also turn 1 in December. We planned to try an FET by the end of the year, and my RE suggested I have two periods before we do. He also wants to re-run some baseline tests, including a saline sono, during those two cycles. I haven't gotten a period yet, so it's looking like we'll have to wait a little longer. I'm still EBF but not ready to wean yet.
PP, did the results of your ERA change the timing for your transfer? I’m wondering whether to ask for this prior to our FET for our second child. I did not do an ERA for our first FET but were very lucky that it worked.
