On Wednesday this week, Moco had their weekly briefing with Elrich, Dr Gayles and Dr Stoddard. Dr Stoddard added “extra guidance” in contradiction to other guidance out there by CDC and Maryland Sports Commission. It is different than VA and DC. He implied that masks are to be worn at all times practices and games. Clubs are deciphering this now. While many clubs have kids wear masks during practices, to wear masks during a full game at 90+ degrees is questionable.
This has been a common tactic throughout this process on executive orders -- if there is pushback from council or state, they add more “guidance”. Their additional guidance is what landed soccer from medium to high risk back in July without. You may want to email your council member as this is not what was expected. |
| Gail and Stoddard have to much power. This is over the top. |
| Insanity. And this is not just for soccer, this is for every sport. |
| Super happy my kids have no games in MoCo this fall |

I do not see any other sports received this guideline. Even basketball practice.
Can someone confirm if soccer are singled out again? |

My high schooler has now played in a number of competitive pickup games in which everyone wore a mask. He hasn’t found it to be as bad as he thought. I appreciate and support the decision.
BTW there is no guidance in DC. The mayor prefers to pretend that no sports are happening. Fields in the city are still not open for “organized team” use, hence the pickup games I referenced above. Our kids’ DC teams are practicing in Maryland. |

Every time I want to complain about Fairfax County I just pop over to any MoCo thread on here and am immediately relived.
I honestly don't know why anyone would chose to live there. |
lol yeah |

Good job, Montgomery County! Every youth athlete should be wearing a mask. Don’t go huffing and puffing your foul Covid breath at the other players. (Also kudos to joggers and bicyclists who wear masks.)
The ONLY exceptions to the mask guidance should be the elite pro soccer players who are tested regularly & frequently for Covid — as opposed to youth soccer parents who are told to take their kids’ temperature before each practice / game, but cannot be arsed to actually do that, nor do the coaches ask whether their players have had a temperature check. Don’t ask, don’t tell is a lousy policy that never works. |
? I’ve seen the games. It’s mostly young adults in their twenties and they are all wearing masks. It’s really not that challenging. Glad you find it amusing, though. |
Yep. |

if it's that bad or even if you think it's that bad, you shouldn't have your kid outside. i'm not taking you seriously anymore
still "lol yeah" from me |
Seriously shut up. I'll go ride my bike by myself in the 90 degree temps and breathe the humid air as best I can. And there is no great COVID danger from me riding by you at 20 MPH. If you're going to talk about science, at least read the medical journal articles. You are at greater risk from walking inside any indoor space than by a bike (or runner) passing you for less than a second. Even if they are full of COVID. |

Masks while playing soccer are fine.
Think of it as high-altitude training...imagine how fit your kids will be when they eventually start playing without masks. |
