How long did you use a stroller?

Until what age did you use a stroller?

We live in a pretty walkable area, so taking my 3.5 year old around on a stroller is convenient - I don't want to drive everywhere and both of us being on foot would make any trip much longer. However, sometimes I wonder if she's getting too old for this

We had a pretty hard cutoff at 4 for our older one.

The 2 year old sees that the older one is not in a stroller, and therefore refuses a stroller.

The good news is that they've gotten so used to walking everywhere that they hardly ever complain about walking.

We have 2 large dogs that need exercise so we used it until 3.5.
At 3.5 she started riding her scooter when we went for walks.

She is starting to get too old and you are doing it for your convenience. Let her start walking, allow more time to get places, or let her ride a scooter.

2.5 and we're still going strong. We live on top of a hill, so it's great for longer walks when the toddler is pooped by the end. Expecting #2 in January, and we're not getting a double though. Hopefully we can make it work with a combination of baby wearing and ride along board!

Yes, of course, I'm doing it for my convenience. Which is not something to disregard IMHO.

She's not into her scooter, but balance bike and walking we are doing as well.

We stopped at about three.

Maybe 6 months? I wore my kids beyond that or made them walk. Sometimes a combination of both.

OP, the people who are posting here do not strike me as normal. When I walk around our walkable neighborhood, I see some old a** kids in strollers. But I think that 4 is generally the hard cutoff for the normals.

3.5 for the older one (walking to/from preschool only, and only because I was pregnant and couldn’t chase him). Stopped at 3 for the younger one. It does limit our waking range - I won’t walk with the kids to certain playgrounds on my own because if the 3 year old is too tired on the way back, I can’t carry her for a half mile. So we do other stuff or go there with DH, and meanwhile she’s building up her stamina and in another year should be able to walk everywhere we want to walk to.

Tricycle to scooter to balance bike to bike - started around 2.5 yrs old.

We have a cheap umbrella stroller in the trunk of the car for the occasional long outings (Disney last year, zoo, for example).

Otherwise my kids have been self-powering themselves their own way for walks, playgrounds, errands, etc.

Our older one got to use it a bit longer, because we had a double for the little one (a sit and stand type). So not a real seat, but a bench seat for her.

Sometimes the older one would scam a ride in the single stroller while her little brother walked.

By 4, she was more interested in walking mainly, with an occasional ride. By 5, she was 100% walking.

However, little brother is 3.5 and we haven't used the stroller in a long time. He can generally walk most places now, even if they are a bit far. I haven't gotten rid of our single stroller yet, but it's days are certainly numbered.

I don't understand the implication that you must choose between stroller and walking. My daughter is 3.5 and she walks all the time, goes on hikes, likes to walk. But we often still take the stroller out, especially if we're going somewhere more than a few blocks away. It's convenient to be able to throw a picnic blanket and a cooler in the bottom. Plus, then she has the option of riding in the stroller if she gets hot or wants to take a catnap later.

This works for us, and I could see us doing it for at least another year, especially if she's going to be at home instead of in school for that long. I'm sure we'll get rid of it before she hits kindergarten (I think she'll just be too big for it), but I don't understand the implication that using a stroller somehow inhibits them from walking. I wouldn't even judge people letting a 5 or 6 year old ride in a stroller sometimes. I have no idea how long they've been out or why the kid is in the stroller. I don't view it as some terrible thing.

Unless you have some sort of physical handicap you are not allowed in a stroller past your third birthday in our house.

Yes. I was the one who had a hard time letting go of our stroller because now it meant I had to schlep all the stuff on my back! Got a new back pack, made the kids carry theirs too. But man I still miss it haha.
