Pregnant With Third Child

Anonymous
I’m 40 and have two beautiful sons. The oldest turns 3 next month and the youngest turned 1 in May. I just found out I’m pregnant with our third child. We had discussed having a third but decided not to. We are excited but I’m a little scared. My first was a very easy baby but my schedule was harder. I don’t know if I can go the sleepless nights. Anyone I’m a similar situation? How did it work out?

Congrats! I have 3 kids, but they weren't quite as close together as yours and was 37 when I had my 3rd. Have your husband (or other help) manage the older two while you manage the baby. There will be sleepless nights, but it will be a relatively short period of the kid's life, so just push through. Luckily you had a baby recently and are still in the thick of it and having another won't shock you. Just try to make the best of it!

Pregnant w my 4th. Do bottle feeding if you can't handle sleepless niguts. I nursed 2 and bottle fed 1 (a preemie who wouldn't nurse) and my formula fed is the healthiest and doing the best and best sleeper. I am planning to formula feed this one.

Even if baby turns out not to be a great sleeper, formula means you can get breaks and help elsewhere.

My 3rd baby was an amazing sleeper. I went out to dinner with friends at 6 weeks postpartum because I could rely on her to sleep through the night.

I know, I’m bragging, but just saying you could end up lucky like me. The toddler years were less fun, but now #3 is 5yo and she just adds so much joy to our family.

I recently had my fourth and I’m dealing with it OK. I’m doing more bottle feeding so my older kids can help out with my 4 yo daughter being a little mommie. I’m a SAHM which certainly helps but life is still very chaotic. We had a part time nanny this summer which was a blessing but the hybrid school thing is really going to be a test of my sanity.

You’ll be fine, OP. My third boy, was that easiest of all three of my boys. Some of it was his personality, but it also helped that I was so much more relaxed and easy going about stuff the third time around. You’ll love having three kids. Definitely more chaotic then two, but so fun. Also, the sleepless nights phase really doesn’t last too long! I went back and forth about a third, but am so happy I went for it. My third is adored by all of us and such a joy.

You have a similar age gap to my family! When the youngest was a tiny baby I would get asked if they're all mine (yes, I'm not running a daycare), and at times we feel slightly crazed, but I wouldn't trade it for the world. Especially during the pandemic, it's nice that they have their own little pack.

OP here. We did testing to make sure baby is okay and found out we are having a girl.

Yay!So cute! Now you'll have a girl!

I recently became pregnant in the minipill with a girl. It's my first girl after 3 boys! I fancy she looks feminine in the ultrasound pics lol. I'm so excited. Little girls are so fun to dress up!

OP here. I’m excited but I didn’t really care if I had a boy or a girl.

It will be hard in the early years OP but you will love having 3. I love seeing the dynamics of my 3 and can’t imagine life now with just my older 2. It felt like a leap of faith at the time because all our friends stopped at 2 but she brings so much joy and gets along with both DC 1 and 2.

I'm 5 years younger with two, contemplating a third once there is a vaccine. I can't imagine how to manage without childcare too. Hoping things change for the better!

I have 3, youngest is now 4. None were good sleepers, one was a relatively easy baby (other than the whole sleep thing), one had reflux, and the last was sort of in between.

I managed all of it - the sleepless nights, the frequent nursing, whatever I didn't like - by reminding myself it was my last time doing it. There's nothing like knowing there's an end in sight to get through.
