We recently moved to Montgomery County from D.C. and still have a few years before DD starts school. Do schools offer preschool? I haven't seen anything about it so I'm guessing no, but that just seems surprising. Thanks for any insight! |
The short answer is no unless your child qualifies for a special needs program. However, there are some pre k programs for at risk kids. You have to meet income requirements. The website will tell you about them. |
For typically developing children in Mont. County, you could ask to be in your neighborhood PEP Pilot program. This is a program which is half students with mild special needs and half typically developing children. The special needs children get it for free the typical kids have to pay, and I don't know how much. This is not available at all schools ,but you can ask. |
Very few places offer Preschool. Many counties around the area only offer 1/2 day K. I am also aware of counties around the country that have proposed cutting K programs since they are not mandated by law and there are serious budget shortfalls.

One of the benefits of DC is that it offer pretty good Pre-K program and sometime even a 3s program. Can't find that (very much) in suburbs unless as others say you have low income. (the other benefit is the public college subsidy program). |
