Best small school for pre-health

Anonymous
DD has a 3.88 uw/GPA (NoVA public) & 34 ACT. Wants to go into pre-health, with a biology/biochem major, is looking to do research with a professor and also internship possibilities.

Schools on her list include:

Hamilton College (reach)
Franklin & Marshall College (reach)
William & Mary (reach)
Connecticut College (low reach/high match)
Gettysburg College (low reach/high match)
Dickinson College (match)
St. Mary's College (MD) (safety)
College of Wooster (safety)
Allegheny College (safety)

Assume we'll need merit/FA.

OP here. I guess I should ask: How does this list look? Any other suggestions?

Internship possibilities at Hamilton during the year would be rough - middle of nowhere CNY

Maybe look at Union

If Hamilton is a reach, this will be too.

I’d look at Furman. My dd went there with a science major and did research with professors and had a great internship experience as well.

Look at Lafayette. Good LAC with great science departments.

I would also recommend Macalester as a potential target (though I don't know about their merit aid for your DD).

Kalamazoo would be another safety with good merit aid (bio/chem kids considering midwest SLACs with merit aid typically will look at Wooster and Kalamazoo-if they want to stay closer to the East coast they go to Wooster, if they want a livelier college town/city they go to Kalamazoo.

OP here. I've heard nothing but great things about Furman, but DD doesn't want to go to South Carolina, or any further south than Virginia, for that matter.

I would look at Denison.

Juniata would be a good safety and their science departments are excellent.

is there a reason they aren't focusing on urban campuses- if internships are a must have, those seem like the best candidates

Look at Lehigh.

You can major in bio or biochem in the college of arts and sciences, or in their new college of health, you can major in population health, which has degree requirements that leave room to complete all premed requirements.

I think you are aiming too low. My DC had a 26 ACT and 3.2 GPA and got into Connecticut College last year.

Muhlenberg for sure!
