everything has to be disposable

Anonymous
my kids start private soon and everything sent for lunch and snack has to be disposable (like brown bag) to be thrown out after consuming. are there good one-time use packaging items people have found that won't make me for awful for contributing to massive amounts of plastic waste? thanks.

Unni bags. Compostable utensils and cups.

It will end up in a garbage landfill and not decompose. There’s not enough oxygen.

Paper cups, paper napkins, brown paper bag, paper straws

For utensils the plastic "compostable" ones will only decompose in a commercial compost facility (it's usually marked that way on the box -- only in commercial compost facilities). Instead, use bamboo or wood utensils.

Reuse some of your food packaging when possible. (Save the bag the bread came in to pack a sandwich, run the cottage cheese container through the dishwasher and use it to pack cut up fruit, etc.) This way it's been used twice before being tossed.
Also think lighter when using new - Saran wrap instead of Ziploc bags for example.

Paper bags,.waxed paper wrap for sandwiches, little paper cups like you sometimes get with takeout.

Or even wash and reuse takeout containers that can then be thrown away.

The school doesn’t want to send anything home me, so no utensils, even reusable ones.

@Kids.eat.in.color did a whole post on this with earth friendly and budget friendly ideas!

I would gladly do this if I could send my kids back to school!

Buy recycled stuff but compostable stuff won’t decompose in a landfill so don’t bother. Send food that doesn’t require untensils.

No straws. You’re killing turtles.

Why turtles and straws specifically? I’ve always wondered this.
