How much would you expect to pay to cut a 50 foot tree?

Anonymous
Got a very high estimate and wondering if we should keep looking?

Depends on the girth and proximity of other obstacles as well.

We pay $2000 every two/three years to trim 3 trees. We had a $8-10K estimate to cut down a huge maple tree (wide and tall), which we ended up trimming down at intervals to make the process more affordable.

We just got a 100 ft pine cut down and shredded for $3600 out here on the west coast. The first estimate was $8,650! I am still ticked at the difference in price! The $3600 people did a wonderful job and were very nice to boot.

+1 - we just removed about a 25'-30' tree and had the stump ground for $2000k. The other estimates were closer to $2500-$3000.

Stumps make great fertilizer, if folks don’t want to pay for that.

Get many estimates. Our swing between estimates was a few thousand dollars. You never know whether a company needs work at that moment.

We paid $2300 to have a giant tree removed (stump remained) but got estimates up to $6k.

It's a tree. As long as it's cut down, I don't really care if it's down by the queen's standards.

Depends on the width and the kind of tree. Pine trees are cheaper because the wood is soft. Oak trees more expensive because wood hard. Much harder to cut. These estimates seem very high. 50’ is not a tall tree. Ours are at least 80 with wide spreading oak branches. We paid $1500. But might be time of year. After a storm they are busy.

$3-$5k

Get at least a half-dozen estimates. Tree guys, especially the smaller crews are all over the place on pricing. You could include a large firm like JL Tree Service to get the high end of the spectrum.

JL is super-professional and I would highly recommend them if insurance is paying or if you have an especially difficult job - but you are gonna pay for them.

i can do it for 1000. i cut my own trees. last one was taller than 50' very close to the house. all went well except tree fell on the house and caused severe damage. other than that, i am well qualified. call me.
