DS wants to pee standing up like Daddy. We’ve started potty training and he’s pooped on the potty successfully sitting down.
Anything wrong with letting him stand to pee from the start? |
Yes, it's fine. Just get a properly sized stool. |
Only a problem when you’re out and he’s too short to stand at a public toilet. You can stand him on the toilet, maybe. |
No stool needed.
|
If he’s too short, he can sit. Standing on a stool trying to pee at this age is an invitation to fall and get a concussion. |
Op here. I was going to let him pee standing up in front of his little potty or on the step stool to the regular toilet. |
My kid at that age as standing on a wide stool with no slip treads to brush his teeth and wash his hands, both of which are more complicated motorically than peeing. You can use a potty the first couple times if you're really concerned. The biggest issue with little boys standing to pee is that sometimes they forget they are peeing and turn around to look at things behind them. The second biggest issue is that sometimes you're behind them. |
Laughed out loud! You’re brilliant, PP! |
Why???? Teach him to pee sitting down. He can stand when he is older. Or not. No one needs to stand up to pee. |
I have 2 boys. They both learned to pee sitting down. My sister did this same with her 4 boys. I think it was the only parenting advice from her that I listened to. My bathrooms are clean, toilet seat is always down, and there is no dribble mess on the floor. They eventually learned how to pee standing up when they were a bit older, but they only do this outside the home. Could you get your husband to model sitting down to pee? |
+100. Why would you want standing to be the default? We are a sitting down household, standing up is for urinals which aren't accessible to a kid anyway. |
We potty trained our son that way. I was the first of my friends with a kid and never got advice to do it sitting down. DH always pees standing up, our son imitated him, and it never occurred to us to teach our son by having him sit. In public bathrooms, he stood on my feet or I lifted him up a little. I’m not saying it’s the best way to potty train, but it worked perfectly fine for us and I don’t think he is any messier in the bathroom than his peers now (he’s 8). |

DS used this since potty train, it’s great and you can always adjust according to kid’s height, and DS no longer wet his pants (he wet his pants when sit down on toilet or stand in front of toilet). He later learned to stand like daddy without making mess but still likes to use his own for another 2 years. |
I think the primary reason that you want to train peeing sitting down is that it makes it a easier to train pooping. |
So you pick up the kid, hold his feet between your legs, tilt him so he's at about a 30 degree angle, and aim him at the bowl. |
