Just heard this and wonder if others will follow:
https://www.wgbh.org/news/education/2020/08/21/northeastern-threatens-to-rescind-admissions-of-incoming-students-who-said-online-they-plan-to-party “ After a student posted a survey on Instagram asking incoming students whether they planned to party when they arrive on campus, the university sent a letter to 115 students who answered “yes” to the poll. The students were warned that if they failed to sign a form committing to protect the campus community, Northeastern would rescind their admission offers.” |
| Good for Northeastern! Students who will be on any campus have a responsibility. |
+1 |
| Thats fair |
| Welcome to adulthood--population you. |
+1 If schools that have already failed, like UNC and so many others, had made that clear a threat in advance, maybe they wouldn't already be closing down in-person classes. All schools also need to tell the same thing now to all the off-campus students who are going to "stay in town and take classes online from apartments" etc. They are staying just to party; there is no other reason to stay (except "I paid this rent and can't get out of the lease so I'll stay"). Colleges need to tell them that off-campus behavior now makes them subject to expulsion. |
I think that most colleges have made that threat. The only difference here is that they stalked this kid's insta and then made that threat individually. My college age niece has certainly gotten the generic email sent to all of her school saying that, and her parents have gotten a "talk to your kid" email about that. She has decided to take all online classes and stay with us. |

My son is entering Northeastern and I have been very impressed. They have opened up their own testing facility and will test students regularly throughout the semester (I think weekly). They will require 3 tests in the first week and students will be required to pass all three before they can attend a class. They have software that will rotate kids between in-person and online attendance of classes. Of course there are mask requirements and separate dorms if you get a positive test. They also are having frequent web meetings over the summer to emphasize safe culture. I think it is working because on the NEU subreddit, there are students telling their class mates not to mess thus up. Here is my favorite:

Background guy killed me lmao |
| Sounds like a bluff. Is Northeastern really in any position to decline students? It’s a laughing stock degree mill who faked their way up the US News list. |
At least it is not Cornell!
|
They only reject 80% of their applicants |
| Punish kids for a half developed brain. Great. |
Don’t send the “kid” away to college then. Many kids CAN follow the rules. |
Ah yes. Not sure how a “half developed brain” precludes them for using common sense and having an ounce of care and concern for others around them in the midst of a pandemic. Even kindergarteners can understand that. |
