Ladies, does any one know a good UK resource (a forum or otherwise) that discusses options for a 41 year old single woman to get pregnant in the UK.
I have a friend there who is 41 and would like to explore becoming a mother. She is in a relationship, but her partner (who has kids from his previous relationships) does not want to have more children. She literally woke up at 41 and decided that she is not ready to say she is fine with not having children. She has not had her eggs frozen. Please no judgment. Would appreciate links to good resources or overview of this process in the UK (I heard, but have no idea if that's true, that the process is not as costly in the UK as in the US). Thank you. |
Facebook has a lot of groups (IVF, single mothers by choice, etc) So I think that would be a great option for her. Egg retrievals, IUIs and IVFs are much more affordable in Europe. Her national health plan may provide coverage, so she should look into that. I did IVF in Germany as an American. If I had been German my IVF would’ve been paid for Out of pocket it was at least 50% cheaper than in the States.

Thank you. Yes, I told her to start with a good forum in addition to gov, fertility clinics resources. FB too could be a good start. It seems that in the UK as a woman between 40 and 42 years old she may be eligible for one free/state-sponsored IVF cycle (three free cycles for eligible women under 40); additional cycles would be about 5K each. Best wishes to everyone on this sub-forum. |

There is an active Instagram community. I heard an interview with the “solo mum” above on UK based BFN podcast. Love this podcast! https://www.bigfatnegative.com/18-lovely-lining-bpas-and-author-richard-mackney/ |
