Masks for under 2

Where are you finding masks for the really little ones. I want one for my 13 month old. I know some believe there are risks but I don’t feel we are teaching social responsibility. I believe in the greater good as opposed to living in fear of a possible risk for a small one.

That’s too young. We are teaching our 3-5 year olds that they need to wear their masks to “take care of babies who can’t.” Your child isn’t old enough to wear a mask and not touch it or play with it and it will do more harm than good. If you are really fixated on the social responsibility thing, you can loudly narrate it to your child if your out in public: “that big boy is wearing a mask! He’s so kind to think of other people and help keep you safe! When you’re a big kid you can help babies, too!”.

But just keep that script in your head because it would be annoying to hear. Seriously, a mask on a kid that young is weird and performative, don’t do it. You can help by grabbing your kid if they get in other people’s spaces or being generous towards parents of older kids who are wearing their masks properly.

Your 13 month old BABY is not old enough to learn social responsibility.

The CDC does not recommend masks for under 2s.

Ask your pediatrician how they feel re masks for under two and the risk of suffocation or strangulation.
And then forget this terrible idea.

This has to be a troll.

It's not safe.

I'm a big believer in masking, but not at 13 months.

You're joking, right?

Yeah this is a terrible idea. My 3 and 6 year old wear masks daily but I wouldn’t get one for a baby. Honestly think about the strangulation risk alone!

Can you share what mask your 3 year old wear daily ? For how long daily? I am looking for masks, thanks!

I buy different ones on Etsy. Look for cloth masks with 3 layers- usually the listings say for 3-6 year olds. I have found my kids do better with head straps as opposed to ear loops.

My 3 year old will wear it for several hours, when she needs to. It took some getting used to- we worked up to that amount. But she understands that these are the rules and also that it will help protect her from covid (I know it’s better at protecting others than protecting the wearer but didn’t get into that with her).

I do think she’d wear it for longer but that hasn’t been necessary so far.

I'd just make or buy one with one piece of cotton.

A 13 month old is simply too young. Do not make your baby a poster child for responsibility. Be the adult and always wear the mask yourself.

Please don't mask your 13 month old!

This is a troll. Or an idiot. It’s honestly hard to tell these days.
