Washingtonian's Top Doctor's List 2008 hits newstands 3/20

just wanted to let everyone know.

we all love this list although in my experience not every doctor on that list is good. i am very interested to see if one particular doctor is still on the list. of course they survey physicians and ask them who they would send family members to see, so it's not exactly a representative sample of consumers...

I've had much better success using Checkbook Magazine www.checkbook.org[url]. All service providers are rated by consumers, not doctors who recommend their friends. I was always curios how each doctor in the practice was considered the best by Washingtonian. It seemed biased.

sounded good...but I went to the site and this was at the top.

"To find out who the top doctors are around the country, we asked roughly 260,000 physicians to tell us which specialists they would want to care for a loved one. Our Top Doctors database contains the names of over 20,000 doctors who were mentioned most often."

so it's the same thing but less specific to our area.

Be careful. As far as I know Washingtonian does not do this, but some publications, the doctors can pay to be included.
This one, I know is the case. My friend is an editor of a magazine and turned me on to this when we were both pregnant with our first and looking for docs.

"Each doctor is included
in Castle Connolly’s
“Top Doctors” listing.
Castle Connolly is the nation’s
leading provider of information
on top doctors for many
publications including Chicago
and New York Magazine’s
“Best Doctors” issues."

i have no respect for this list...dr. nicole lang was in this list and we had the worst doctor experience with her! i couldn't believe she was on the list and have no idea how she got on it. her bedside manner is just awful, she was always running late - waiting times about an hour at least. she i found to be very snippy and unprofessional in the way she handled most things. she never even came to see our child in the hospital, as most peds i know do.

I am the poster who suggested Checkbook Magazine. I subscribe and I am routinely asked to rate services and businesses. I thought that included doctors as well. In any event, I've had much better luck with them than Washingtonian Magazine.

The line above rates primary care physicians by patients.
