List of stuff for College kids to have going back to campus re: COVID

Anonymous
My kid is leaving Monday for campus. Going to buy a thermometer for him. What else should he have? First time having an apartment and with Pandemic and living in a cold climate, I think he should have on hand most supplies.

Also anyone have rules / guidelines for college apartment living with Pandemic? He has 3 roommates -- i feel like he needs help on how to manage the potential spread of disease. Eg overnight guests, stranger in apt, if someone gets sick

Have him sign a medical POA so you can be involved in his care if necessary.

Pulse ox
gloves
Bleach
Clorox wipes
Hand sanitizer
Medical Release forms, power of attorney, etc (the hospital will not notify you of your adult child’s medical status without proper documentation signed by them)

Enough masks to have a clean one even if he does not do laundry regularly.

Have him and his roommates establish some procedures to help keep the apartment a clean zone. Like when you walk in the door, take off your shoes by the door, immediately wash your hands and clean your phone, etc.

I used Mamabear.com for the legal forms -- HIPAA release, durable power of attorney for medical issues, durable power of attorney for financial issues. I am sure I could have found the forms myself for free but I was happy to throw $49 at it to have it done and dusted.

LOTS of face masks plus make sure he knows how to use them correctly (and how not to touch his face all the time, touch the front, etc.). I'm sending my son with a box of disposables as well as a set of at least 7 cloth masks with filters and two mesh bags, one for clean and one for dirty, for washing in.

Socialize outside, if at all. Being in other people's air volumes, especially indoors, is the highest risk. If he and his roommates just have everyone over all the time that's obviously much less safe than either podding together or agreeing on only seeing friends outside the apartment.

Definitely they need rules about what happens if someone gets sick.

I'm seeing a lot of recommendations for a go-bag for getting sick -- i.e. like your hospital bag for when you're pregnant -- in case he has to go quarantine somewhere or god forbid go to the hospital. Ibuprofen, acetominophen (sp? Tylenol), cough drops, a couple changes of comfy clothes.

Make sure he has a copy of his insurance card, send him with any prescriptions and OTC meds, and make sure he knows what the signs and symptoms of covid are!

I’m keeping it simple like a cold/flu kit:

Masks
Hand sanitizer
Lysol wipes
Tissues
Mucinex
Pain Meds/fever reducer
Cough Drops
Tissues

Plus first aid kid because he’s bringing his skateboard and gets scrapes and burns

Neosporin

Something to do with his small bubble. DC and group are playing board games and cards. While distancing, wearing masks and using hand sanitizer. Lots of hand washing. I know it’s touching the same stuff but they need SOMETHING to do so they won’t go out.

A putter and golf ball for a miniature golf hole they create themselves. Endless entertainment.

Wet Ones.

A lot of vodka.

Why don’t you move in with your child so you can make sure everyone is neat and clean. Talk about a helicopter parent!! Very weird

Um, I’ll ask my legal adult child if they want that from me. Insane!
