Has anyone seen the news about the President's blue ribbon panel and suggestions about math instruction?
This is about the only thing that has come out of the Bush Administration that I applaud. I posted the thread on Everyday Math (EDM). The panel did say (among other things) that too many topics were being introduced too early, and that "any curriculum that any approach that continually visits topics year after year without closure is to be avoided". That would be the SPIRAL approach used by Everyday Math. I know that some of the "best" private schools in the area use EDM (Norwood, Green Acres, St. Francis) When do schools plan to change? Will it be ten years to think about it then five years to implement? |
Op correction: "any curriculum that continually visits topics year after year, without closure, is to be avoided" |
