Oakland A’s coach Throws Up Nazi Sign

Anonymous
Just saw on TV where the coach did this on national TV. What do you think about this anti Semitic behavior.

Stop it. It was clearly a mistake. He was trying to bump forearms and wasn’t thinking.

A mistake?

This is where you look at his past behavior, esp. on social media. It's like the Army cadets who were making America play the "made you look" game and were not alt-right edgelords.

What's a Nazi sign? Like a swastika flag? A Volkswagen logo?

He raised his arm like he was saying "Heil Hitler!"

Clearly people there in the moment thought it looked bad, because one guy walked over, bent his arm for him, and bumped his elbow, and then he went back to the Heil position.

I'm not saying it was a Nazi sign, but it was a bad look. It's good that he apologized and didn't make light of it saying basically, "I'm so sorry, please forgive me, I didn't mean to convey that message, but I understand that I did and I'm really sorry".

He wasn't trying to bump forearms. You don't straighten your arm to bump forearms. He might have been trying to do something else innocuous but not that.

They aren’t supposed to high five during covid so it could be a mistake.

I'm absolutely willing to believe it was a mistake, trying to do some kind of air high five could be it. Just not forearm bumping, because that's just how that would look.

I thought his apology was excellent. I think that often when people apologize for unintentional racism, they turn it into a discussion of how they were feeling. So, it becomes a conversation about the experience of the person who did the thing, and not by the person who was hurt by the thing. He didn't do that. He did explain briefly that he wasn't trying to give a Nazi salute, but he also acknowledged that people were hurt by it, even if that wasn't his intention and he seemed to give a genuine apology, not "sorry you got your feelings hurt" which always sounds fake, but "sorry my action hurt you".

there is a video clip here: https://sports.yahoo.com/oakland-bench-coach-apologizes-nazi-144918676.html

I dunno. Its an odd way to try to give a high-five or forearm bump. But it kinda looks like when the player corrects him he might be saying something like "Oh yeah...that did look like a nazi salute...my bad."

Huge props to the player correcting him.

Thanks for the video. I don't think he was giving a high-five or forearm bump. Maybe this idiot thought it was funny joke. Whatever his intention, it was clearly done intentionally.

I agree with this. Not saying the guy is a racist but this looks to be a horrible attempt at a joke.

Don’t forget plenty of good people on both sides.

White supremacists get away with that type behavior.

If they had been 10 year olds that excuse might have been believable. Please, how gullible do you/they think we are.
