I'm desperately trying to plan a getaway this spring before the baby comes in August. With work commitments and other things, it's tough figuring out when to go. What I really have no energy for is figuring out where to go. Usually I make a huge project out of planning a vacation, but I really can't deal wiht it right now. I just want some good recs for resorts people enjoyed.
I'm thinking Puerto Rico, the Bahamas, or maybe Bermuda. Trying to keep it to one direct flight - but open to suggestions. Any thoughts? |
| You don't say what the budget is, which would narrow things down. I heard Caneel Bay on St. John is fabulous, or any of the other Rosewood resorts. I've been to the Ritz Carlton in Jamaica and in St. Thomas and they were nice, but I wasn't blown away. For a pre-baby trip, I'd try to go to a place that's a little more special/couples-oriented. Have you done searches on tripadvisor? Travel and Leisure puts out lists of best hotels, they are on their website. |
| Thanks, I am not sure what the ranges are - we aren't looking to break the bank but since this will be the last real getaway before baby #1, I want to stay some place fairly nice. A place where I wouldn't mind lounging around in the hotel room at night or whatever. |
| Shouldn't this be in the travel forum? |
Yep. I moved it. |
| We went to Aruba a few months before our first was born. Highly recommend the Renaissance Marriott property (not the regular Marriott on a different part of the island). Renaissance has a pool at the regular hotel a second much larger pool at the units on the beach (all part of the same hotel). They have a private boat that runs every 20 minutes that takes you to the Renaissance private island. This is awesome because it's very secluded and completely relaxing! There's a casino at the hotel and it's centrally located to restaurants. Absolutely loved it and it was very reasonably priced and had a direct flight out of Dulles! I can't wait to go back! |
| great suggestion, thanks! |

Take a look at Biras Creek Resort on Virgin Gorda ... beautiful place, includes all your meals (excellent food), very relaxed place with excellent service and no children allowed under age eight (so you won't be able to go here for a long time once baby arrives!) They often have special where you get one free night in an ocean front room if you stay 3 or 4 nights.

LOVE Biras Creek. Not the easiest to get to (PR, hop to Tortola, boat to Virgin Gorda). I recall a 6 AM flight from IAD (before the eateries were open for breakfast and no food on the flight!) and getting there at the end of afternoon tea. but it is gorgeous and the rooms don't even have keys.
We enjoyed Maroma in Mexico for our honeymoon, which is under an hour from Cancun airport but very intimate and no children under 12. |
