Tiny hopping insects in garden - grasshoppers?

I noticed yesterday that one of my garden beds with flowers has lots of jumping insects in it. When I disturbed the soil, insects started jumping everywhere. They look a little like brown grasshoppers. Any ideas?

Are they causing a problem? They’ll probably be gone soon.

I guess they’re not causing a problem besides being quite startling when I am near the flowers and they’re jumping everywhere. More curious than anything else.

Could also be crickets. We have these in our yard in DC

I’ve noticed a bunch of little grasshoppers this summer, too! It must be a good year for them. They’re all over my creeping thyme.
