MD allows one in-home provider to serve 8 children?

| We are looking for an in-home provider for our toddler and heard that in Maryland one in-home provider can have 8 children. Is this right? How do they manage? They don't have to have an assistant for that many children? |

| If it's the same as MD daycare regulations, it depends on the age of the kid. I don't think infants are subjected to that ratio -- it's more like 3 to 1. I have a 3 year old and I think at her age they can have 8 kids and 1 teacher. |

| Yes with no more than 2 of those under 2. They manage somehow. Usually they have a helper or a second teacher for part of the day. We went to a home daycare with 8 kids per Covid. They took 18 months and up. 8 kids and 1 main teacher and 1 floating teacher for part of the day. As long as the space is childproofed it’s fine. The biggest challenge is when they need to diaper or take kids to the potty. |

| Yup, our provider had 2 under 2, 3-4 preschoolers, and her own two kids (who were elementary aged). She managed. My kid was with her from 6m to 18m and absolutely love her provider and the whole situation. The provider wore her a lot when she was the youngest. |

Does anyone know how long it takes to get the certificarte of registration from the State of Maryland?
