| We received an email today from our summer camp that they'll be offering a limited number of slots for "DL camp" in the fall (8:30 - 4:00pm daily). Eight students per classroom, $1200/month. We work full time and have young elementary kids who need supervision, so it's an attractive option. Additional details on their COVID procedures to come. Anyone else considering something like this? |
| We are considering something similar. It feels like we are undermining the whole point of shutting down schools though so we are torn. |
| do you not have DL school during those hours? which require attendance? |
| OP what sort of facilities does this camp have? |
Not OP, but I have received emails on camps like this, too-- they supervise the kids and provide support for distance learning during the day. |
| I have not received emails on camps like this but would be interested. I'm in Alexandria. Are you in MD? I'm wondering if we're just not getting them yet since ACPS just announced its plan last Friday. |
I’m in Arlington and haven’t received emails yet either, but am interested also. Please share names of these camps if you can! |
| This is the OP and yes, they supervise and provide support for kids in DL. The program we received information from is church-based but currently open only to campers returning from their summer program. We’re considering it for our first grader. |
| These companies are smart. |
Maybe. They're smart if they use PPE and have safety measures in place. They're not smart just because they see an extra source of income. |
I'm not OP, but do live in Alexandria, and Baroody sent me an email which makes me believe they will be offering something similar to this. |

Kid Realm is doing this. I'd I had one kid who I thought could work independently, I'd do it. It sounds safer than having a babysitter cone to your house or hosting a pod.

I have received but I am not considering as it is too expensive for our budget. Plus, I am a SAHM working temporarily so it is not a justifiable expense for our family. I would love for my rising 5th grader to have to have some social interaction (live, in person) so I am trying to see if there is a possibility of a "pod" once a week disguised as "supplementing" but we would really go for the social aspect.
My little one will have a similar pod. September will be hard for us as they will have school and I have to work, but my work contract only lasts until Sept. 30... after that should be easier to monitor them. My husband will have a taste of what other working parents (without a SAHP or family support) have been going through since March. He has it pretty easy now...lol |
