Grateful for any info on Potomac soccer as an option for a six-year-old boy. Is this a good first club for a kid?
Also, presumably COVID has changed a lot in terms of training and games, it seems quite expensive if he will only be doing two socially distanced training sessions per week. Thanks. |
| I would go for the cheapest option you can find for a 6 year old. Even if he has "talent" there is plenty of time. No reason to pay top $ during covid times. |
| go with whatever their friends are doing at that age. The superstar six year old is not necessarily the super star thirteen year old let alone the recruited 17 year old |
| LEave your kid in rec and hire a trainer or find clinics. Get off of the "I need to put my kid in travel at six," train. When he is ten or eleven, begins to make sense. Before then you are just another anxious parent feeding the soccer industrial complex. |

OP here. Thanks for the advice so far.
In no way are we pushing our kid into this, in fact we only really found out what travel soccer is just now. |
| I would really consider joining a MSI Rec team if I was you. 6 years old joint a travel team is a little ridiculous unless you have something to prove with your friends. Play at MSI for a heat or two then decide to join MSI Academy, Potomac or another travel team. |
Relax, there are no travel teams for 6 years old kids. Nearly all travel clubs have youth rec programs that are designed for development and fun at these ages. To the OP, just pick a club nearby that might have some friends of your child to play with. If there are friends or familiar faces it tends to make it much more fun early on. |
| I would not pay travel prices for a 6 year old during covid. Whatever is $175 or less. and I would pay by the season, not the year. |

Consider Lions Soccer club here in Rockville. Our kids love the team.

There is no travel price for you to pay for 6 years old, unless that 6 years old kid is good enough to make a U8 team. Some clubs do have a junior or future program that have more practices and with a paid coach, which is more expensive than REC but there is a market for that. |

I think this is the program...

if your kid loves soccer, than contact the coach to check out the program. At this point, if there is no rec soccer in Montgomery County, he can at least get practice in with Potomac. My kids really like the U8 coach. |
| DD played U8 for Potomac and loved every minute of it. |
Definitely 6 year olds on the u7/u8 team at my club. And younger. Rec feel/ travel prices. |
