New schools forums

I'm finding these a bit confusing b/c some threads appear in more than one forum, and some show more replies in one forum index than another, although if you click on the link, you get to the same page.

Ex: the Norwood thread currently has 36 replies in the general forum and 39 in the indep schools forum (I think), but if you click on it in the general forum, you still get all 39 replies.

Is it possible to redistribute threads from the general forum to the more specialized ones? It looks like you started to do this then stopped--I guess it's too much work?

When I move a thread, it leaves a link in the original forum. Those links don't get updated as often as the actual thread. I started moving some threads, but its painfully boring and, not being a schools expert, I don't know where to move some topics. If a topic's icon is a circle with a curved arrow in it, its a link. In those cases, its best to read the thread in the new location.

Would you reconsider retitling the independent/private schools forum so that it is not limited to elementary schools? Thanks.

I can do that. Do you want it to include preschools, high schools, or both?

I was thinking of secondary schools, but maybe all three would be good. Thanks.

I really, strongly dislike the new formatting for the school threads. Why the changes??? It seemed to be fine before.

The changes were requested by users and also fit the general direction that we want to take the site. It was very difficult to find daycare resources and given the extensive issues affecting DC public schools, I wanted to provide a discussion area for those. The only question is whether preschool and private school discussion should be split. I can always change things again if it isn't working out. Nobody seems to ever like change here, but give it a chance. It may turn out better than you expect.

Would you consider moving more threads into the specialized forums if we tag them for you? And also deleting those threads from the general forum? I think the fact that they are still in the general schools forum, even if only as links, encourages people to start threads there that really belong elsewhere. Thanks.

If you suggest a more appropriate forum I can move threads for you. When I move a thread, it leaves a link in the original forum. There is no "approved" method of removing those links, meaning the forums program doesn't have a way but there may be a hack that works.
