Lately it’s the anti-wokeness crusaders, particularly on the politics forum, although they pop up in the education forum and other forums as well. They’re practically rabid in their fury and full of the usual grievances. But I’m old enough to have seen all of this before (eg. bashing “hippies” and the anti-war movement, calling women advocating for more rights “feminazis,” the war on gays, bristling at any minority group trying to stand up for themselves) and I know that the louder and angrier these folks get, the more certain it is that change is coming.

I literally just like looking at pictures of pretty dresses, worn by MM and Kate Middleton, and pictures of the cute kids. I can mostly see those in the Cambridge thread because even if there are some KM haters, there aren't a lot and they can be largely ignored. It is, in contrast, impossible to do the same thing with the Sussex thread because there are pages and pages of often-racist vitriol that sounds totally batsh!t crazy, and any normal news or posts are buried. Both are true.

It makes me sad. What would our culture look like if we actually respected grandmothers? American culture does not value the elderly at all, and this is an expression of that. Nothing could be worse, in the youth-obsessed culture, than to call someone old. Our society is ill.

I agree though don't know about copying from hate groups. Often they start out "you white people or folks" and it gets more and more offensive. A lot of racist stuff or hate doesn't that always get deleted. Any personal name calling or attacks should be deleted. Often they aren't.
