Also, while an elementary teacher served on system wide committees on curriculum development and was curriculum chair for my school.

61 pages of debate and the anti-CC folks have yet to come up with a single criticism that actually holds water.

Au contraire!

Poorly written standards have been posted. You can debate the developmental appropriateness of some of them, but you cannot disagree that some of the standards are terribly written and unclear.

The last time I asked what was good about the standards, the response was that they are "common" and they are "good." LOL!

To the CC supporter who requested my training: I have posted mine. Where is yours?

What is wrong with CC?

#1. Written by committee behind closed doors. Little or no contribution from classroom teachers.
Anonymous
#2. Based on the premise that the problem with our schools is lack of standards. Lack of standards is not the problem.
Anonymous
#3. Many standards are poorly written and/or vague.
Anonymous
#4. IMHO, many are developmentally inappropriate.
Anonymous
#5. Too tied to publishing companies.

I don't have any training in writing standards (although I have a lot of training and experience in measurement, as well as a master's in education), I never said that I had any training in writing standards.

Now, could you please provide some examples of educational standards that you think are good? For example, here is a second-grade math standard from Virginia:

The student will
a) identify the ordinal positions first through twentieth, using an ordered set of objects; and
b) write the ordinal numbers.

Is that good?

Here's an old first-grade math standard from Maryland:

Standard 2.0 Knowledge of Geometry
Topic A.
Indicator
1. Recognize and apply the properties/attributes of plane geometric figures
Objectives
Identify, name, and compare triangles, circles, squares, rectangles, and rhombi by their attributes
Create models of triangles, circles, squares, and rectangles with varied materials
Combine and subdivide squares and triangles

Is that good?

And could you please take one or two of those Common Core standards that you think are bad standards, and rewrite them to your satisfaction?

Could you please give an example of a standard that is developmentally inappropriate? If there are many, that should not be difficult.

(Also, unless you are a classroom teacher, your opinion (humble or otherwise) is apparently not relevant.)

What is the problem?

The home environment. Poor schools are a reflection of kids who get little support at home. This starts years before they come to school. Yes, teachers can make a difference--but standards are not the problem.
