2024 Girls Lax WCAC ISL Outlook

Sounds like BI made some effective adjustments. Congrats to their coaching staff. Well done.

Lots to unpack here ...

False claim #1: "... more and more DMV lax families are choosing not to send their daughters, and their $$, to the Ivies for reasons the Harvard and UPenn Presidents made obvious."

- The current ivy freshman class has the most DMV representation of any other ivy roster class: 6 are freshman, 4 are sophomores, 4 are juniors, 5 are seniors.

- DMV 2024s have (at least) 5 committed to ivies (3 from SJC, 1 from SSSA, 1 from Holton). One less than last year, but one more than the 2022 and 2021 classes (and same as the 2020 class).

- Players don't "choose" not to attend an ivy because of a perceived liberal bias (everyone knows it exists everywhere and that ivies are lightening rods). If you really know this sport, the main reasons players turn ivies down are: 1) the lack of scholarship $ 2) the intense academic rigor (which isn't for everyone) and 3) the high standardized test scores and transcript expectations ivy coaches demand of recruits (which scare many players away).

False claim #2: "Visi and BI have sent more girls to play Ivy league lax in recent years than most of the other ISL and WCAC schools."

If we define "recent" at 4 or less years (using all available data):

- Of the 19 DMV players on current ivy teams, only 1 is from BI (Princeton). Just 2 are from Visi (both at Yale).

- SSSA also has 2. Holy Child and Holton have more (4 and 3, respectively).

- Holton, Holy Child and SJC (not BI or Visi) have the most active and committed players to ivies (4 each).

We all know that high school has NOTHING to do with college recruiting. May be more interesting to look at the club team and how effective they are at getting girls recruited to ivies.

This has always been the case with Potomac. That coach cares only about winning but has no sense of how to do so. Certainly hasn't actually developed any players, just recruits them then thinks she can win with a few strong players, while she leaves strong athletes, who could contribute with good coaching, sitting on the bench. It's very frustrating to watch this happen for so many years. She has no trust in any of her athletes unless they are on the Capital A team. The rest get benched or told to just run around to fill the space.

You clearly are a former parent with an axe to grind.

I was at the Potomac - Visi gsme this afternoon.

Visi was the better team, controlled the tempo of the game except for the early stages of the 1st quarter.

Potomac has no bench and thus little depth. They might have had 5 - 6 girls on the bench today. Visi on the other hand has bench of at least 15 girls on its bench.

News flash, when you have the inferior team and don’t have the horses to run with visi in the midfield, you should try to slow down the game when you can. Visi as we all know is loaded in the midfield and it shows.

Potomac had plenty of offensive chances but shot poorly.

Based on what I have seen thus far, SR is the team to beat in the ISL.

May be a bitter parent but they aren’t wrong. Potomac has just as many fast D1-quality middies as Visi. Potomac may have a shallower bench but have a stronger starting line. With a good coaching they’d have beat Visi.

Potomac d1s are great players but visis midis are all ranked players so there is a caliber difference.

Do you understand how rankings of individual lax players work? They have to pursue it. It’s not a pure process. It doesn’t mean much other than v other players who pursued rankings too.

This…take a look back when any player began to be “ranked”. It’s when their parents submitted their players. Not saying it isn’t deserved or accurate in many cases but there are certain players who get recognized from early age because of connections and this continually provides opportunities.

Visi got worked in the second half....but the 5 cards didn't help either.

We get it. You graduated from an Ivy, are now a SAHM, and have way too much time to comb thru college lacrosse recruiting websites to justify why you

Oh, I don’t know, maybe the part where you imply the 5 yellow cards weren’t warranted and that the BI win wasn’t earned

It's true that after falling behind in the game, the team's frustration was evident and resulted in several penalties. However, it’s important to note that they only started receiving cards after they were already losing, not before. Therefore, attributing their loss solely to the penalties is misleading.

In reality, they received fewer penalties than they perhaps deserved. Throughout the game, there were multiple instances of aggressive play, including off-ball incidents that were not in the spirit of the game. Ultimately, the team that won played both fairly and strongly, which is commendable.

Regarding the coaching, it was noticeable that the opposing team's coach was quite vocal and harsh, which might not be the most effective approach. Perhaps adopting a more professional and supportive coaching style could help in guiding the team more positively, especially when they face setbacks.

I simply went through the current rosters. Used hard data. Took no time at all. Used your timeline, actually. What’s “recent” to you? 5+ years? Just stop. Haven’t seen one thing from you that challenges the facts I presented. Just weak noise.

Why is this that important to you anyway? Why are you having such a hard time being happy for families who want the best for their kids who’ve worked incredibly hard in the classroom and on the field?

Disagree with your dismissive snark. Not the PP, but found the "unpacking" pretty enlightening and helpful.
