| My DC said the math class this year was extremely hard and stressful. Main reason is that the teacher didn’t design test questions himself but used third party software to do that. The software also graded it for him. He had no clue what these questions were and that software didn’t always grade correctly More importantly, the questions were a lot more difficult than home work or review materials. So, I don’t get it when posters here say this year grades were a gift. I also feel some teachers did little to help kids through this difficult year. |
| This year was extremely hard on both my kids. Thye really did not need the minimum 50% as they always turn in all work, but some of the quizzes and tests were set really hard and class averages were around 80% on some of the AP classes. |
Grades used to be like that back in the day. A C was an average grade. Now a B+ is an average grade. Ridiculous. An A should be an outstanding grade. Not every kid is doing outstanding work but so many of them get As. |
There are some unfortunate cases where teachers don’t like to see certain students do well. In such a case, it is necessary to expose the situation to ensure these unfair practices don’t continue. |
Freshmen year of college I had a Prof ask what an average grade was. Most the kids in the class said a B or an A. He said, “No, average is a C. Most people are average and most students earn a C in my class.” It was a wake up call. I earned an A, after my advisor encouraged me to not drop the class because I freaked out. Lots of B’s and C’s though. |
Welcome to college, where the average grade is awarded to the literal average students. This is how they grade. If you want an A, you don’t just have to do well, you have to do better than everyone else who did well. Did everyone get an A on that test? Congrats. Now you all got a C. |
